Northwestern versus Vanderbilt $$

Vanderbilt gave me some money and coa is lower than NU.
I will try to negotiate with NU but I am not very hopeful. Attending NU would mean huge debt.
Leaning toward Vanderbilt, especially since I really liked it when visisted. Looks like a good fit.

How much money?
Where do you want to work?
Where are you from?

Even with 75k, youre still likely looking at 150k in loans before interest, meaning over 200k after interest

Interest doesn't accrue quite that quickly in 3 years, but the point stands that you'll basically need Big Law to pay off all that debt.

lol, you're right. i had just been doing interest calculations for my friend going to med school, so my estimation calibrations were a bit off, haha.
just did the math and its more like 175k. so yeah, still biglaw territory. Try to negotiate what you can. If Vandy won't go down to 100k debt or less, I'd opt for NW for better placement, unless you want PI and Vandy has a good LRAP (which I know nothing about)

It's my understanding that Vandy does not negotiate. Their offers are final.

A lot of schools claim to not negotiate - this just means they're unwilling to do it. People have successfully negotiated with Vandy. There's no reason to not at least give it a try.

Where do you have ties? What are your career goals? If it's PI, consider the vastly different IBR programs at each school.

I don't think 75 is enough for Vandy. I think 90 makes it a decent enough deal post interest. Did you get any money to Conell or GULC?

We just need to know where you want to live the next 3 years as where you want to practice after to direct you. Nashville and Chicago are very different cities, Vandy and NU place to different regions.
For example, I would go to Northwestern every time without question when given these alternatives, because I will never live in Tennessee, and NUs cali return placement is far stronger. What are your geographic variables?
