I was surprised to see that NU got a higher score than UChicago when I set it to focus only on big law - both for IL and for NY. (I took clerkships and academia out of the equation, which probably skewed it a little bit.) This is definitely fun to play with.
NU's focus on employers desires (such as really only taking students with work experience) seems to be paying off with the way they place. Definitely worth whatever hit to admissions they take that puts them towards the end of the T14 in US News.

Once academia is out of the picture, NU truly outperforms its ranking. Great tool!

Thanks for the feedback, guys! Just added cost of attendance, and tweaked the default ratios a little bit.

Since it's one of the few schools that has admitted me, I'm also pleasantly surprised by NU's performance. Focusing just on Cali big law it was 3rd behind Stanford and Berkeley. Impressive.

This is interesting. So supposedly English/Literature and Soc/Psych/Anth all give you a boost? Those each seem like pretty easy degrees to be giving a boost unless it has more to do with reading and writing requirements of those majors.

Nothing gets a boost. Quit saying this. You were told this in another thread and even if there were a boost it wouldn't match the topic of the thread.

It's not on topic? It is regarding material on the website that he provided via the link. Yep, pretty on topic. I do realize that those numbers though should be taken with a grain of salt, it is just interesting to see how they may be interpreted.

You are completely off-topic. Please stop posting your inane "analysis."

Back on-topic, Making COA super important gets lulzy results like CUNY and University of Puerto Rico (that has a law school?) breaking the top 10. I have a feeling I'm gonna spend hours playing around with this (cause I'm a nerd).

I don't really even see analysis in the comment, just observation. Oh well doesn't matter.

Anyway, this will be a fun toy to play with. I can't help but play with "what if" scenarios.

Its medians aren't what hurt it, it's the peer assessment scores.

What do those entail?

This is great! I set the criteria to my own preferences, and it confirmed my interest in attending certain peer schools over others. Thanks!

Here's how USNews describes it:
In fall 2012, law school deans, deans of academic affairs, chairs of faculty appointments, and the most recently tenured faculty members were asked to rate programs on a scale from marginal (1) to outstanding (5).

What does the program do if the input weights add up to more than 100%? When I clicked on the link, the defaults were employment 60, COA 30, USNWR 10, and Proximity 80.

You can make it add up to 100 if you want, but really you're just applying weights to the different factors, so it doesn't have to add up to 100. (I realize this is different from what I said in the OP, but it's all based on the same principle, you just don't have to limit it to 100.)

So, in that case, proximity would count as 80/180=44% (while employment is 33%, COA 16%, and USNWR 6%). Note that if you don't select a state for proximity, it will just ignore it, which is why I made that the default, thinking most people would just leave the state blank.
