Tough one. I'd take the Butler.

Hmmm... I wish there was a way to measure what edge, if any, HLS has over NYU in government/policy work. I would guess it's tangible, but have nothing other than intuition to base that claim on.

For just the Butler, I'd take HLS.

Any government hiring is tough. Most people I know who wanted gov/policy work got something, even if it wasn't their first choice agency or organization. But Harvard has a leg up in federal government hiring and also a big leg up into DC biglaw, which is a prereq to a lot of government or policy positions.

I'm pretty much in this exact same position, similar goals, except I loved Boston after visiting. I'm leaning HLS, but haven't received finaid info yet.

For me, that extra 10% chance at a clerkship is worth the price difference (which is a little smaller than 85k because HLS's tuition is a few thousand less, and Boston isn't as expensive as NYC). And I'd rather wind up in DC than NYC after.

Consulting like MBB? HLS is probably your best bet.

Yeah, MBB. I'm not committed to it, but it would be nice to have the option in case it really grows on me. As far as I know, a handful of students from each HLS and CLS went into consulting at one of the big 3 last year.

It's rare, yeah, but I think HLS is probably the best bet. You'd have to gun for it, though, or have the background in UG. But yeah, it's not a 'fallback' option. GL!

HLS is not necessarily the "best bet." At T6, he just needs to get the interview and ace the case interview; MBB aren't going to nitpick between HLS and CLS.

Go for the Butler or NYU (actually, I'd figure out what you really want to do before even going to law school because right now, it doesn't seem like you have a clear, set idea)

You're right. I do think there is some advantage to HLS but it's remiss to go to LS with the intention of getting MBB. But you're most probably right.

Federal Clerkship and interest in Government work= HLS.
Any other aspirations= CLS with Butler.
