Probably Just Being Stupid (Poll)

So, I was accepted at Michigan and it's not looking great for financial aid. I've also been accepted at IU-B and am expecting a scholarship between $60k and $120k (I realize this is a large range). I don't have any real geographic preference, and I waver on what I hope to do upon graduation. I have a few general questions I'd like to get some feedback on:

a) Would Michigan consider $$$ from IU-B, or are they too far down on the totem pole?

b) If anyone says IU-B, would it make a difference how big the scholarship is?

c) In general, would I be crazy to choose IU-B with $$$ over Michigan at sticker?

Can't hurt to try, but I would guess too far down the totem pole. I'd go Michigan.

I don't really know about your last two questions, but i would be absolutely shocked if Michigan negotiated a IU-B offer. They're only going to negotiate in the T14, most likely. They are going to dip down to 25

It's gonna be harder to get a job from IU-B w/o ties to the area, but you can stave off significant debt, especially if you don't have BigLaw aspirations.

Michigan has strengths, obviously, but at sticker, it's still not easy to get a job and you'd have to gun for BigLaw in a major city.

Explain your post-grad plans.

I go back and forth between biglaw (corporate or soft IP) and public interest (general at this point). Debt frightens me, so that's a factor.

I'm in a pretty similar boat (small scholarship at Mich and $$$ at UNC/Colorado). I'm pretty set on PI work and the thing that has me confident going to Mich at the cost is a solid LRAP. I'd look into that a bit if you are considering PI, because it makes it a little less frightening.

Basically, my understanding is Michigan will give you better odds if you want Biglaw, and if not, gives you better options for PI (with the LRAP). That's at least what I'm thinking. Would love other thoughts.

Yeah, their LRAP is pretty solid. It's definitely a factor for me.

Indy is incredibly insular. If you're from the area or not is a huge deal in determining the answer to this.

This. Do you want to work in Indiana? If not, go to Michigan.

Still waiting on HYS, but not expecting much.

Poll consensus seems to be Michigan. Thanks for the help everyone.

If you're not from the area, then Michigan all the way. If you had ties to Indiana and surrounding areas, then this would be a debate.

Retake/reapply. Michigan is too expensive, IUB is meh. I've gotta think there are some midrange options? What are your stats?
