WUSTL 105k or UCLA 60k?
From Saint Louis originally. Just finished undergrad in LA. Hoping for biglaw in Chicago or Denver one day. Is UCLA's reputation worth the money?

UCLA has a hard enough time getting its grads lawyer jobs in LA let alone the Midwest.fyodor wrote:From Saint Louis originally. Just finished undergrad in LA. Hoping for biglaw in Chicago or Denver one day. Is UCLA's reputation worth the money?
Don't think WUSTL will really get you either of those markets either without top grades but I would probably take the money on this one.

the amount listed is the scholly you're receiving (over 3 years)? Any stipulations? You might want to compare using total COA instead. Idk if st louis living is expensive...but I know LA (esp Westwood-UCLA) is.

UCLA is not going to get you to your goals. Could you live with family if you attend WUSTL?

If you're completely set on Chicago biglaw, take Northwestern and pray.
Personally, I'd take the money at WUSTL and not look back. Especially given your ties to St. Louis.

No stips on the scholarships. Amount listed is total over 3 years. It is a logical possibility that I could live with my parents, but that sounds less than appealing.

Total amount of scholarship or total cost of attendance (adding both COL and tuition)? I'm assuming total amount of scholarship. I would try to negotiate between USC and UCLA. If they don't increase the amount significantly, I'd vote WUSTL (esp if u live with your parents. I know it would suck besides getting free, home cooked meals but so does debt)

This. I only wish my parents had lived near a reputable law school when I was going through.Regulus wrote:Having shit-tons of debt is probably even less appealing.fyodor wrote:No stips on the scholarships. I voted NU, but if you can live with your parents for at least some of that time, take WUSTL. You may be able to play hardball with them and get that scholarship upped a little bit more.Regulus wrote:Having shit-tons of debt is probably even less appealing.fyodor wrote:No stips on the scholarships. I don't want to discourage you too much, but none of those schools are getting you a Denver biglaw job without significant connections. Those jobs go to the very top CU/DU kids plus t14 upper crust who grew up in Denver etc. There are like 20-30 SA spots in Denver each year.

Northwestern at sticker is way too expensive, UCLA and USC are pretty much a wash. Unless LA is your goal, neither one is worth 45k more than WUSTL. And you shouldn't really expect Denver to happen, it's brutally competitive.fyodor wrote:From Saint Louis originally. Just finished undergrad in LA. Hoping for biglaw in Chicago or Denver one day. Being an STL native, you should take WUSTL and gun for STL (might get Chicago with grades), or retake the LSAT.
