Thomas Jefferson School of Law?

I have recently been accepted to TJSL and am wondering if anyone has any encouraging information regarding this school. I have seen all of the negative posts out there (Tier 4, waste of money, etc., etc.), but what I would like to see is something positive about the school. It still seems to attract a large number of applicants and has recently built a new facility in downtown San Diego, which means it can't be a complete "waste of money."

Unfortunately, I have had to receive straight A's for the last two years in order to make up for the 2.24 GPA that I transferred with (from when I was young and dumb). I have been able to get my GPA up to a 3.0 finally. My 147 LSAT score isn't helping either. I am still waiting to hear back from a couple of other schools, but if I don't get into those schools, then TJSL may be the school I choose. I would love to see some comments from people who are familiar with the school and the surrounding areas. Thanks!

Also accepted at:
Vermont Law School
Whittier Law School
Phoenix School of Law
Monterey College of Law

Telephone psychics make a profit too. That doesn't mean they're not a total waste of money.

Going to TJSL will cost you six figures (taking out loans for the entire COA will put you $257k!!! in debt) and only about 25% of graduates get a proper legal job paying more than you'd make at Starbucks.

Your ONLY logical option is to raise your LSAT score and apply to better schools next year. There are worse GPAs at my T14. For how long did you study for the LSAT, and how?

The best part is that nobody is forcing you to go. The reason you are hearing so much discouraging information regarding TJSL is because it has been ranked as the fifth worst law school in the country. Roughly one quarter of their 2011 class found work as a lawyer. That's inexcusably, ridiculously awful, especially when considering the total cost of over a quarter million dollars.

Run away. Run as fast as you can.

Having nice facilities just means they were successfully able to swindle their students. Don't let them take advantage of you.

As a fellow baseball fan, I am obliged to give you the cold hard truth. Half of the people at top 10 law schools are having a hard time finding decent jobs that can pay off their loans. Law school costs too much anymore to go to anywhere but the best schools if you are paying full price.

No but seriously, do you realize how shitty your logic is here?

UCLA, USC, UCI, Loyola, Pepperdine, and USD are all within two hours of TJSL. Don't bet 250K for a chance to "compete" for jobs against these grads, yet alone T14 students with ties, in California's tough legal market. If you want to attend law school, retake is TCR.

San Diego has to be a contender for the city with the most law school grads relative to the number of available jobs. Thomas Jefferson School of Law is a scam, plain and simple. The nice thing is that law school admissions is almost totally numbers based, so the only thing necessary to get better law school options is to improve your LSAT score.

Having studied both this school's financial disclosures and the ongoing litigation against it, I'm of the view there's a significant chance it will cease to exist within the next five years.

We can all hope, along with at least 50 other schools that don't meet the basic definition of a worthwhile venture

OP, it is a shame you already know all the facts but are just looking for the info that you want to hear. We could sit here and tell you what a nice campus it has, how great the profs are, hell, we could even lie and tell you that its a good school that places well.

But at the end of the day, the truth is that TJSL is one of the 5 or 10 very worst law schools in the country, and arguably the very worst.

Going to law school with your number is a terrible idea. Either retake the LSAT or don't go.

Anyone hear about this "Madoff fund"? Their fundamentals make no sense, but they attract a lot of people and just moved into new Park Avenue offices, so they must be a good investment!

That would be great. Can we also get rid of everything ranked under 75 too?

People like the OP who stick their fingers in their ears and willfully make irrational decisions are part of what allows the scam to continue.

Baseball_2013, I apologize on behalf of the other members on this board who are being douche-bags for no apparent reason. You have obviously done your research and come to the conclusion that the Thomas Jefferson School of Law is the place for you, and are now simply looking to hear about some of the school's strong points.

Let me start off by affirming your assumption that the Thomas Jefferson School of Law isn't a complete waste of money because it "seems to attract a large number of applicants and has recently built a new facility in downtown San Diego." Just three years ago a well-known rankings system took the size of schools' libraries into account; accordingly, there is always the chance that a new set of rankings will take the newness of a school's facilities into consideration, in which case Thomas Jefferson would be ahead of schools like Yale and Harvard in this category.

Another wonderful thing about the school is the fact that it is named after Thomas Jefferson. I don't even know what a "Yale" or a "Harvard" is supposed to be, but I sure know who Thomas Jefferson was. This alone adds to the school's prestige.

Finally, people are going to tell you that your postgraduate employment prospects will be dismal if you attend the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. However, as the ABA data for the graduating class of 2011 show us, this just isn't true. Thomas Jefferson may initially appear to have slightly worse employment rates than another prestigious school that begins with "Thomas" (Thomas M. Cooley Law School), but the chances of getting a job at a decent firm are twice as high at Thomas Jefferson. Just look at the following graph if you don't believe me:

Image

In conclusion, I think that the Thomas Jefferson School of Law is a great way to gamble with $275,000. If you compare your chances of getting decent employment (0.8%) to winning any major lottery (0.0000006%), you're leagues ahead of the rest of the idiots out there who are throwing their money away.

if you have the money to blow, go to the casino and find a roulette table, then put your tuition money on black. you've got better odds.

True... but I only make a few posts per day. It is about the quality of posts, not quantity.

 I honestly wonder how many people on here are trolls... first the guy spamming about Regents, and now this dude with Thomas Jefferson. I treat all users who post about schools with clearly shitty outcomes equally (as trolls). I mean, there isn't any way that they could come to a site called "www.top-law-schools.com" and make such posts without being trolls.
