If staying in Missouri takes first priority, then Mizzou. He'll likely earn less but it will be okay since he'll have minimal debt.
If maximizing chances at big firm jobs takes first priority, then WUSTL.
Honestly I think his Missouri ties will make him very competitive for bigger firms in Missouri coming out of WUSTL
But I think your friend should consider that there are other things besides just "prestige." WUSTL is rich. It has deep pockets and is willing to spend it on its students. It's going to edge out both SLU and Mizzou as far as LRAP, externships, clinics, public interest stipends, etc.... Yes job placement and debt minimization should take priority, but there are other benefits that he should consider.
