Top Law Schools

I am originally from the midwest (hence the name) and want to wind up back there. My main concerns are $$ and getting a job, rankings don't concern me greatly. I am pretty open to winding up anyone in the area after graduation. I was wondering what suggestions folks may have. Are there certain schools which dominate markets?

Btw I have a 160 and a decent GPA from a midwest state school.

I am specifically interested in Creighton/KU/MU/UMKC/Washburn/Nebraska.

You're going to have to be more specific. None of those schools will place in the Midwest as a whole; you need to look at individual states.

1) What state are you from/where are your personal ties?
2) What state are you a resident of?
3) What kind of a job are you looking for?

Just read the rest of your post, I didn't think Kansas/Nebraska was part of the midwest. It's more of a plains state than a midwestern state.

I go to KU, and I'm not sure this is the case. Washburn and KU have a similar relationship to Creighton and UNL in Nebraska. Creighton and Washburn probably have more lay prestige than KU and UNL. If you want to end up in Kansas, Washburn and KU are basically interchangeable. If you want to leave Kansas, KU is probably the better choice.

Good for you. The overwhelming majority of your classmates are not in that boat. Anecdotes can be helpful, but "It worked out for me" doesn't lead to the conclusion "It'll probably work out for you!"

Also rankings are worthless.

Life is what you make it, maybe asides from OCI in the top 20% a job is not going to just land in your lap. I learned a long time ago that if you want something to just go grab it. BTW, I'm in the top third, nothing to really even write home about. CWRU is good enough (especially for free) to have a really great career.

Translation: I'm doing alright, and if my classmates aren't, that's their own damn fault for being lazy/not smart enough/not desirable enough candidates.

I have nothing against Case, and I'm glad you're enjoying your time there. But your anecdote about doing well does not mean it is a good investment. Over half the graduates there wind up without a full-time, permanent JD-required job. Only about 40% of their class is represented by the salary data, which is not a good sign, especially considering the median salary for that 40% is 70k. The school employed over 10% of their graduates in school-funded jobs. And if you want to talk about "value," the non-discounted cost of the school is almost a quarter of a million dollars. I'd trust that data far more than your anecdote.

Fair enough. That ^ was actually a pretty good post. The first two you posted in here were some fairytale "work hard and you'll make it" advice, which was why you got the responses you did.

If OP truly can't do better than his current LSAT, then he should go to the cheapest school in the region where is from and try to work there.
