BU/Emory/Vanderbilt/W&L/GWU w $$$

Trying to make a decision soon...I'm originally from Atlanta, went to UG out of state. Family is mostly in Atlanta, but I would not be living at home. It would be nice to be back in the south and in warm weather (!), but I rather get a job than be warm, for the most part. I've never been to Boston or Virginia, but the scholarships are tempting. Thoughts?

Edit: I don't have a strong desire to work in DC/NYC.

Are you IP eligible?
Vandy is sticker, correct?
Does your desire for a job trump your lack of a desire for NY/DC?

Have you tried to get them to match GW or BU? If not, I think BU is the choice here.

(Edit: Not IP eligible.) Vandy hasn't released scholarship information yet, but for familial reasons I'll have to decide in the next couple of weeks. URM status, expecting ~60k (3 yrs) from Vandy.

Probably not for NY/DC. WD at USC for same reason. Anywhere outside of there though.

I thought Emory didn't negotiate - I guess it's worth a try. Good point.

If you don't want to work in Boston, DC, and wherever W&L places, you're down to deciding between Vandy and Emory. I'd choose Emory, because of the costs.

Makes sense. Would be fine with working in Boston - I just don't have ties. Is that a problem for BC/BU?

If you get 20K/yr from Vandy, then Vandy.

these schools are all about the same. so do the math based on tuition break amounts (stop calling them scholarships- they aren't) and cost of living, and pick your winner. the job scores are essentially the same. if emory is willing to play ball i'd go there given your family and the cost of living in atlanta as compared to boston and dc.

there's no buyers' remorse if you don't have to buy anything, friend. whoever is telling you to take vandy at 20k/yr discount is insane. that still amounts to a total price tag of about 120,000 dollars, not including interest accrual and prior college debt.

Vandy and Emory are not peers at all.
