Retaking is far and away the most intelligent choice here.

ND is absolutely not worth sticker, and it will not get you to SoCal. What are the stips on the Loyola scholarship?

I might go to the law school in Vegas in your situation. If you can go for free. And exploit connections.

It's super hard to make your own.

Otherwise, RETAKE

What courses did you take? Have you done every LG in existence? Since games don't come to you naturally, have you done every LG in existence at least twice?

You can really only hope to work in California with a California law degree, or good grades at T14, or some serious connections to lawyers in California. Nobody here will put any value on a UNLV JD.

Now, if you are going to attend law school in California, I strongly recommend nothing lower than USC. If you choose to ignore that advice, then you have to go to Loyola/USD/Pepperdine on a full scholarship.

Odds are out of a lower Cal T1/T2 that you'll graduate unemployed or work in a small firm in the area of 50-70k. But that's a lot better to do with little to no debt, than with $100k+ debt out of Hastings, Davis, UCI, etc.

I'm aware that a UNLV JD is pretty much worthless outside of Nevada. But would work experience in a big company matter? Say I work for Las Vegas Sands Corp. as a tax attorney for five years. After passing the California Bar, would that experience help me land a job in southern California?

Also, 70k is actually fine with me.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Is $50k ok? 70k seems the top of what you'd earn given that you'll be in the lower half of the bimodal distribution.

I didn't mean to imply that kind of money is easily had. I graduated top 15% at Hastings and don't have a job making that kind of cash. Right now I am working part time for $25/hour.

If I had to approximate using lawschooltransparency data, I'd guess that a school like Loyola places about 5% in $100k+, large and mid sized firms; 30-40% in small to mid firms making 45-70k full-time; the rest either working part time, or in a non-legal field, or unemployed and still looking.

Agree with you, but salaries are a little higher in California due to cost of living.

That's not good. That means that $70k doesn't go very far. But that's where you're topping out at anyway given how these things work. Also, no one is making $70k to start at a "small firm". They're making $40k to $45k.

If your set on going and living in California, and these are your only options. Take loyola(on a side note, I am very surprised you were offered full tuition .-. Your numbers seem fairly standard for there school).

Lets hope you get into USC.

Top 50% might be harder to keep than you realize.

Dear God please retake. Don't go to NDLS at sticker. Don't even go to USC/UCLA at sticker.

Did you get a full-ride or the 96k OP? 96k is not a full-ride...

Reason I ask is because, allegedly, LMU has yet to issue their full-rides yet.

I'd HIGHLY recommend retaking and applying next year.

Otherwise go to Loyola....DO NOT go to Notre Dame at sticker.

Wow. I can't believe I almost took one of these TTT deals.

Just retook for a 167 and am going to be reapplying. Kind of disappointed that after four attempts, I still did not crack a 170. It is what it is.

Thanks everybody!
Can we sticky this? NO ONE has an excuse not to retake if they're looking at TTTs (any school that only gives its students a 50/50 shot of becoming a lawyer)

congrats man

Retake

J/K bro, that's awesome. I obviously was incapable of breaking 170 too. But you'll have some good choices. Definitely let us know how your cycle works out!
