Marquette Law

Marquette is a school that I'm currently considering however I am a bit concerned about minority success from Marquette (& W-M) regarding biglaw. Searching linkedin and the top law firm directories (Foley, Q&B, Rienhart, etc.) I do not see many AA recent graduates represented. Furthermore, there seems to be a schism in Milwaukee which has been referred to as a racial segregated city.

Although I was born in the Midwest, I currently live in the south and have no issue navigating racial tension still present in Dixie. Can anyone who is familiar with WI discuss demographics, racial tension/inequality, or social concerns in the area?

Are there ANY anecdotes of successful AA graduates working (Biglaw/Midlaw/Any Law besides solo) in WI?

Also, what is the socioeconomic makeup of Marquette? Is it an eclectic group?

So you're an African-American applicant? What are your numbers?

In their effort to promote racial harmony among graduates Marquette does a great job of keeping white people from getting BigLaw too.

OP, it may be worth your while to contact Wisconsin Association of African American Lawyers (link below) to get a better sense of city culture and opportunities that exist for AA lawyers in the state:

While Marquette does seem to place a few AA lawyers in Milwuakee, etc. it appears that the likes of U-Wisconsin and Northwestern have more appeal to potential employers.

Contact the Association for more information.

I do know that I stopped by the pamphlet table outside my pre-law undergrad advising office and Marquette had typos in their material. Hope that helps.

I do know that there are a lot of racial and ethnic minorities in Milwaukee though. There are a lot of Southeast Asians, which add a cool and different culture. If you go to the mall you see a lot of different backgrounds, I didn't see a lot of segregation. I dunno maybe by zipcode though.

Thanks for the link. I also apologize for mixing up the mall as evidence of segregation. That makes me sound like a dumb Republican politician from the south. My point about the typos though is maybe more relevant to your question about big law.

LST lists that only 7% of people are employed in law firms of over 100 attorneys. Even that is with a 47% percent salary response rate, so very, very few of Marquette graduates will be practicing big law regardless of their background.

It's a pretty segregated city and there is some degree of racial tension, but that shouldn't be why you don't go to Marquette (no jerbs).

OP, you are a socialist who wants big law (or was that a joke...hard to tell on the interwebz at times)?

Anyway you are like the 10th person I have seen on this website in the last day who is considering schools that place less than 10% into big law yet says the goal is big law....I am completely flummoxed as to how considering Marquette + goal of big law can co-exist in the same person's head, but apparently it is very common, so I am curious....if big law is your goal, why do you want to go to a school that gives you a 1 in 12 chance of doing so? Sorry to pick on you because you are not alone, but I am really trying to understand this.

I was joking lil breh, capitalism 2016.

My UG is barely passing (2.0X). Even with a 180 I'm shut out of T14 making my chance at biglaw no greater than 10%. Tulane rejected me last year an I was above their 75% LSAT. My only option is to attend a strong regional TT with great scholly.

Im not Biglaw or bust...just law jerb or bust.
