FSU vs Stetson vs others (with conditions)

I am a Florida Resident. I had a 3.54 GPA and a 162 on the LSAT.

Right now I have been accepted to the following schools: FSU (sticker price), Stetson (full tuition with top 50% after 1st year stip) & Chicago Kent (23k yearly, no stips).

I am still waiting to hear from Temple,Tulane,UF,UM and William & Mary.

Given the 3 schools I have heard from, what decision would you make in my shoes? Also, would a decision from any of my other schools I have yet to heard from be better than all 3 of those options?

Where do you want to work. How much of this would you be debt financing.

I was at Stetson and transferred out. 50% is not a terrible benchmark, but I personally knew someone that lost pretty much their entire scholarship. If you do lose the scholarship, then there is no point in continuing at sticker price.

Personally, if you have to go, then FSU in state is not a terrible option, provided you want to work in Florida. I would still probably not take it though.

Stetson offers better stipulations than top 50%. I would press them for some. If they do not relent, I would not take their scholarship offer.

I am willing to work anywhere really. Im comfortable in Florida but would be totally open to any kind of change.

I would be financing most of the debt.

I had similar-ish numbers and got 10k/year for the first two years (and could be extended to the third) at FSU. You need to hit them up for some $. I'm from Tampa and actually a fan of Stetson (and have worked with more than a few Stetson grads) but I agree the top 50% stip needs to be negotiated.

Do you think email is the best avenue to negotiate or should I call/visit in person?

Is that per year, or are you only going to spend 20k to attend FSU for the entire three years?

Per year sorry. And not including cost of living.

CoA= Cost of attendance. Figure out how much debt each school would actually make you go into. The schools' websites have a pretty good layout of what the average room and board, etc. should cost.

As for how to negotiate, I've never heard of or considered going in person to do it, but I guess if you live close enough you could.

How much will CoL cost. Add it all up together and tell us how much FSU is and how much of that you are debt financing.

If you are looking at International Law then consider University of Miami.

definitely FSU. also, if you're able, transfer to UF.

inb4 TLS talk: Retake the freaking LSAT and go to a better school.

WTF, transfer from FSU to UF? TCR is retake and go to UF with money.

what I meant was in her CURRENT situation to go to FSU and hope to transfer out or get accepted into UF. If OP COULD retake, I'd want him/her to go to a far better school than UF with money since OP's GPA can land him/her a t-14 if the LSAT holds.

A few more points will get you 12k / year or more at UF. Don't go to Stetson without a full ride and even then I wouldn't.

I'm assuming OP will be in at UF without money (although they give need based, which is awesome..) and needs to work on getting some $ from FSU. IIRC FSU gave pretty good money to those numbers in recent years. I am not sure I would take UF at sticker over FSU with $$.

I still think Stetson on a full ride is a good deal for someone who is from the Tampa/St. Pete (although OP didn't specify where in FL he/she is from) area and an either a) live with parents or b) has tons of ties there.

I do live in Tampa, and have a few ties within Stetson. That is why I have considered them, although there not ranked high they have pretty good numbers as far as Bar passage and employment goes.

I also got a full ride from Hofstra today, but Ive read plenty of horror stories about them on here.

I came up with a number of approx 45k which would be my total debt that I myself would have to cover total in 3 years at FSU.

You will get into UF so I think now the choice is really which of FSU and UF you want.
