Top Law Schools

LST puts GW at 80.7% post grad employment, above better ranked schools (NU and Berkeley for example). Why is that? Anyone has some insight on this?

81.3% of graduates were known to be employed in long-term, full-time legal jobs. This includes an unknown number school-funded jobs, but it is as high as 15.4%.

This is my best guess, but IRL I have no fucking clue.

School is better at fudging the numbers. I never heard of any GW grad working at a prestigious firm in DC. Federal govt jobs dont grow on trees either. Most of the difference is probably due to school funded "employment".

So what would you say is key here? I found it pretty astonishing that its numbers were so high. Even UMich and Cornell are behind it.

Oh, I'm not denying that school funded employment might be helpful. But to say that GW Grads don't go to prestigious firms is completely outrageous. I'm not sure how all the variables pan out, but my guess is that it is a multi-faceted issue.

This. You know for a fact that NU/Cal's percentages don't factor in school funded employment. Simply put just subtract the 15% from GW's percentage and you'll get the more realistic number: 65%.

GW is like Victorian London. The Haves and mostly Have-Nots.

If you assume all school funded employment is bad and just bracket it, GW has a LST employment score of 65, Cornell has a score of 76, and Michigan has a score of 75. Also, GW has a Clerkship+LargeFirm score of ~25, Cornell of ~47, and Michigan of ~45.

I thinking looking at the LST numbers that way gives a little more insight

They work for the school for a year (maybe doing research? I dunno but it doesn't really matter), just long enough so the school can count them in the bar passage required/long-term category.

Students work full-time for a legal employer for free (public interest, small firms, etc.). It's volunteerism with a $28,000/yr stipend (if you max out your entire year in the program without a real job).

They're fudged. Big time.

You have to subtract out the 15.4% in school-funded jobs (a very bad outcome) and another ?% for the possibility that the numbers have been fudged (this is GW, the school that was eliminated from USNWR's undergrad rankings because their numbers couldn't be relied on).

The fact that they employ nearly 15% of their own students is terrifying.

The only school i can think of with a higher % is UVa, at 17%

They don't employ their own students (at least not 15 percent), they provide stipends for students to work elsewhere. Maybe its a distinction without a difference, just wanted to clarify.
