Which Penn St. campus?

Just looking for input about each Penn State campus. I know UP is more "social," while Carlisle is quieter. I'm assuming you choose what campus you want to attend after you've been accepted, right? Any current or graduated students want to chime in with opinions, pros/cons? Thanks!

I'm from State College. The area up there is great, very community-focussed with reasonably-priced housing and tons of dining options. PM me if you have questions.

It looks like they're going to try to go ahead and make both schools independent of one another much like Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers-Camden. Personally, I think it's a bad idea and one that will ultimately hurt the students since tuition will have to be raised to finance the change. Rutgers would also be better off only having one school, but it's an entirely different situation regarding how the schools came to be. Now, they're going to hire a new dean for Carlisle along with new faculty and staff to run the operation there. No more shared services and having to take on the additional payroll and expenditures will ultimately make the tuition at both campuses rise that much quicker. Plus, I think that Carlisle will become an instant TTT once they separate, as most students will opt for UP and Carlisle will get stuck with the students with lesser credentials.

I read something about the campus split recently and seem to remember that the Carlisle campus was going to try to recruit foreign applicants for LLMs. I wondered if that was because they felt like they had a snowball's chance of making it independently in the current climate. And I think this is something that is 2-3 years down the road.

If I recall correctly, Penn State promised to retain the Carlisle campus when it purchased the Dickinson School of Law. Seems like this might be an attempt to keep that promise while letting the Carlilse campus drift off & die on its own since PSU University Park now has its own law school.

I was hoping this was going to be an elaborate UPenn = Penn State joke, but I leave disappointed.
I spent a summer in Carlisle and I wouldn't do it again. I would go UP if you value having any social life.

Alum here - I spent all 3 years in Carlisle and it was definitely the best choice for me. If you're more interested in a college setting, football games, etc., choose UP. If you're a little more serious about law school, then Carlisle is better. Carlisle has access to a lot more externships - 20 minutes to Harrisburg, which opens the door to a ton of government and judicial positions. Carlisle has better access to DC and Philly to get away for a weekend. If you have a family or if you're an older student, you'll probably be more comfortable in Carlisle.
Happy to discuss via PM if anyone has more specific questions.
