What's the word on UCI?

Are there any solid employment figures yet? LST doesn't seem to have data.

Any anecdotal evidence? I know they had 11 clerkships from their first graduating class, but I don't really know how much that says.

How big is their class? That clerkship number is actually fairly surprising given that they have no alumni on the federal bench.

11/58 apparently got federal clerkships (3 others got state clerkships is what i understand from the articles i've read). the rankings went, Yale > Stanford > UCI > Harvard

not bad obviously, but old news and probably was due to heavy efforts on the school's part considering it was the first class. this seems like it was definitely the school to attend in 2009 if you had PI leanings considering the huge scholarships it gave.

now that the cost is relatively HUGE i wonder what the deal is

Buyer beware

Past performance is no indication of future results

Not until they're accredited.
2014?

I thought it was 2013? If it's accredited this year would they be folded into this years rankings? And when do those rankings come out?

Moral of the story is, I wouldn't touch UCI until they are officially accredited and in the rankings. Also the lack of LS alumni makes it all the more troubling.

Not to mention that it's in an extremely crowded market that needed a new law school like I need a third tit.

I can imagine no tangible benefit of choosing UCI over UCLA or USC, yet they're trying to maintain similar admissions standards. Perhaps UCI will settle in as the 5th best school in the state, but with 3rd and 4th right around the corner, what's the point?
(same argument - there are already two top 20 schools less than an hour away, which by SoCal standards means practically neighbors)

I think the gave up on trying to keep the same admissions standards as USC/UCLA when they started expanding their class and stopped giving everyone full rides. The LSN graph puts them more in line with Hastings and Davis.

I guess that makes sense; overall as a university they usually rank closer to Davis than to UCLA/USC/UCSD/UCSB.

In which case they'll be competing with San Diego and it's too early to see of they're a better option. Why gamble 3 years and $150k on it?
(no surprise by the way)

Lol yea, but he must have some diesel connects to pull off 11/58 federal clerkships. And his book is a money supplement, but it takes long as shit to read and my resentment for him increases every time I read it.

lol this. UCSB belongs with UCSC at the bottom of the none-UCR/UCM barrel. Davis is 3rd or 4th best, depending on where you put UCSD.

But yeah, paradoxically a couple years ago UCI Law was a better bet with its huge fin aid, great faculty and small size. Now it's just a worse UCLA.

Let's set this UC uni ranking straight:
Cal, UCLA, UCSD, Davis/UCI,...

I always think of it in tiers.

HYS: Cal
T14: UCLA
T1: UCSD, UCD
T2: UCI, UCSB
TTT: UCSC
TTTT: UCR, UCM

Do you really want to fork over 150K to be part of Dean Chemerinsky's vanity project?
