UT v UH

Offered acceptance to UT recently. Probably no scholarship.
UT - 100k debt
UH- 30k debt
I currently live in Houston with family.
My Goals: Practice in Texas, preferably Houston. I'm not dead-set on big-law. Very debt averse.
Would I be an idiot to turn down UT for UH?
Additional question: Would I be an asshole to try to hit up UH for more money since I have an offer from UT? Do they negotiate this late in the game? My scholarship amount from UH is 30k. Seems kind of small compared to some of the other offers I've seen but I didn't have any leverage until now.

Well if you aren't set on big law and you're debt averse, then I say UH. Definitely try to get more out of UH.

Ask Houston for more money.

If you're debt adverse, this is easy - go UH. Definitely hit them up for an increased scholly. And be cool with working in Houston probably forever.

Go to UT, it is Texas' flagship law school. Look at IBR and don't plan on qualifying for a mortgage for years.

$100K is a small price to pay to get out of Houston.

It doesn't matter if you're debt-averse or not totally set on Biglaw, there is such a huge difference in opportunities between what you can get from UT and what you can get from UH.
UT without a second thought.

I agree with the previous three posters. UT is worth it.

Have you done research into scholarships for single moms? I'm wondering if there are some out there you can qualify for...

They do offer bigger scholarships, so you might as well ask for one,

Also, does the Houston scholarship have class rank stipulations? Thats would be something to consider as well.

Houston's stips are 2.99. Pretty much everyone I've talked to had that stip.

The cost of the sex change operation and adoption fees would probably negate any scholarships I receive.

Don't bother brushing your teeth. I got a new teeth whitening technique that I developed at home. Just pay me 3 easy payments of $33,333.33.

Is UT always TCR for folks wanting to study in Texas?

IMO yes. I would take UT instate sticker over full rides from SMU/UHLC

It's hard to say "always," but 99% of the time, yes.

I am extremely debt averse, so I disagree with the others. I think it depends how well you handle jobs and finances. My track record isn't so good, so I would look to minimize debt.

That's crazy to me. The majority of UT students will not get big law. in-state sticker is still like 130k after living expenses are added in. You'll need a big law job to pay that off, yet your chances of getting one wouldn't be great. I'd take full rides at the other two schools and hope you end up top 10-15%.

OK, yall are right, in-state sticker at UT may not always be right for applicants with legit scholarships elsewhere.
