University of Utah (STICKER) v. University of Maryland (STICKER)
Assuming In state at both!
No preference in the type of law, but employment likelihood a concern.

Do you have ties to either? LGPA/LSAT? You should probably retake.

Then Utah is by far the better option.

I'm an international student therefore, I need to start school in the fall due to student visa regulations.

Utah !
But it's a world away from Maryland in a few important respects. Also, I believe that Utah will open its new law school building during your first year.
P.S. Just saw your post indicating that you're an international student. This may change things depending upon your comfort level in a conservative, very white environment (Utah) versus the much more diverse & liberal East Coast (Maryland).

At this point, the only thing I am worried about is employment prospects. I do understand the diversity factors though!

Word
Maryland has shitty employment stats, but Utah is full of Mormons, so your call.
Utah is gorgeous though.

Where do you and your fiance want to live long term? UT or MD?
That makes your decision right there.

OP: Employment prospect concerns should include the aspects which I have pointed out above.

Utah FT LT JD reqd employment: 69%
Maryland FT LT JD reqd employment: 47%
Utah has the better overall job prospects by far.

My only concern is do these job prospects translate to international students as well (considering UT is more conservative, however the MD/DC/VA region is more open to hiring diverse candidates) ? This is a hard decision!
Thank you everyone for your inputs though!

Utah, not close.
As a URM, you will likely be very valuable to local firms who struggle to attract URMs in Utah.

@TeflonJeff: That's the dream, but it may not be the reality.
P.S. May be true, however, for 2L SA positions even though not for post-graduation offers.

UT came back and offered me around $7K in scholly for my first semester only!
NOW WHAT? Can I go back and ask them to give me the scholly for 2 semesters at least! If so how do I do it?

Utah has limited funds. Ask, but be prepared for a polite "no". Try Utah for a year unless the school is still in the old building. If you want to transfer to a non- top 20 law school after the first year, you just need to be above median & have a convincing reason.

I can't speak to the entire market, but having family in the SLC valley with legal dealings (read: not lawyers, but work with firms frequently etc) they have relayed anecdotal evidence that at least some firms are actively seeking URMs. Are there going to be some firms that don't? Possible, but I haven't heard or seen evidence of it.

I seriously doubt any underlying prejudice against nonwhites/internationals in Utah would shrink the 20% difference in employment prospects much, if at all.
