One Last Thread - BU vs. Cardozo

I'm asking for your advice one last time, TLS. Deposited at Cardozo after I got them to up my scholarship once more to 42k/year with an 80% stip (I would drop out if I couldn't meet this requirement). However, I just found out on Friday that I got accepted to BU with a 10k/year scholarship, no stips.

Here's some info:

-NY is where I want to practice, without a doubt.
-I like the idea of health law, and I also think IP might be interesting.
-I'd like a job that wont leave me impoverished. As is the case for most people, I'd love to have a shot at midlaw or biglaw, but I'd just really like to be in a position where I'm not suffocated with debt.
-Total debt at Cardozo = 66k; total debt at BU = 133k
-Studied for the retake in June, but found I was making zero progress on my previous scores. Now that I'll be working over time at my job for tax season, I decided it was a wash and got the partial refund.

My two questions are:

1) Which of these schools will give me the best chance at a job in NY?
2) With that in mind, would BU be worth that debt over Cardozo?

My advice? Retake the LSAT and enjoy the T14 with money.

If you want NYC, go Cardozo. This being said, retake that LSAT and reapply next year. If you get maybe 4-5 more points on the LSAT, you'll get the T14 with a 3.77.

This. And that stip is TTT.

I think you misread: top 80% to keep it, so if one were in the bottom 20% you would lose your scholarship.

Retake. Dozo isn't bad with that stip, but still, you can do a lot better if you wait a year and boost your score by 5-6 points, if not more.

Woops. You're right: I did misread. Sorry!

Closer call now. Still don't like Dozo since it's the 5th best school in the state and fighting for the most popular market in the country.

At this point, the next time I can take the test is in October, so the only way I'll be retaking is if in the nest couple of months I come upon some some job opportunity that is worth the year off.

Right now I'm operating under the assumption that I'm going to be at one of these two places in the fall. Is the general consensus that with my ultimate goal of working in NY/not suffocating with debt that Cardozo is the more favorable option here?

Our of those Cardozo is better for sure. You said you're interested in ip. What is your undergrad in?

That will almost certainly help sine you're patent bar eligible. Bio isn't in great demand compared to engineering but it will certainly give you a leg up.

Is there anyone who thinks that BU would be the better choice in this situation? Or that they are worth the price? (~64/year - 10k/year scholarship) x 3 years = 162k - 30k savings = 132k debt

Factor in interest, too.

Pretty scary outcomes if you end up getting medianpwned and can't find a job to service 150K plus of debt.

One last question: Does anyone think that I should go back to Cardozo with my BU acceptance (with a 10k scholarship offer) and try to get more money out of them? I'm unsure how successful I would be, considering I already negotiated my original offer of 18k/year up to 42k/year, and with their last offer Cardozo said "this is really all we can give you." I find it unlikely that they have no more funds to give out, tho, considering it seems they threw around a bunch of full rides to people who didnt accept...

It can't hurt to try, although I doubt you'll get any money. Dean Martinidez at Cardozo does seem like a friendly and accommodating guy, though.

Don’t listen to the retake one trick ponies. Patent bar eligibility changes your situation from that normal advice. Pick the cheaper option out of those two.
