UCLA vs. Penn

UCLA (120k)
Penn(70k)

3.95/170

Applied late in the cycle(mid-January) and thinking about whether I should take whats on the table or apply next year to NU ed program and Chicago RD. Currently on wait-lists but considering Northwestern is out of money I wouldn't go there over Penn. Do I go to Chicago at sticker if I get accepted off wait-list? Looking to go biglaw in Chicago(from Chicago) and big law elsewhere as a backup option. I tried negotiating with Penn but that's as high as they would go.

What do you want to do, and where?

In most cases, Penn seems to be TCR

With your goals and stats I would wait for waitlists to be resolved, take Chicago if you get in, and if you don't reapply with NU ed and Chicago regular.

You won't retake? Go up two points on the LSAT and you won't need to apply to NU ED for $$$$ and you'll prob get in w/ money at Chicago +HYS are possibilities.

I can't retake I already took it three times got a 161 the first and second time and then got my 170. Now, if an applicant gets accepted at NU under Early Decision they receive a full-tuition merit scholarship that is why I would apply ED

Penn w/ 70K is a damn good deal.

Although 1-2 points there is probably a full-ride in the cards. That said, it's probably best to take Penn unless there is a reason to go to another school.

Right, problem is OP already took 3 times.

I highly doubt sitting out another year to reapply earlier is going to do any good. With nearly identical numbers last year, I was stuck with pretty much the same options: Penn 60k vs. UChicago sticker (given the overall drop in yield % this year, I think there's a very good chance OP gets in). Assuming OP does get in, it really comes down to whether he/she is willing to give up 70K for slightly more security at UChicago. Penn is a damn good school and nobody I talked to from visiting last year knew of anyone else who didn't have something decent lined up by graduation. And given Penn's reputation on the East coast, where there are far more firms/jobs than there are on the West coast, I'd say it's worth 50k more than UCLA, especially when you consider COL differences.

I would take Penn.

I completely agree. Penn all the way.

I feel like 170/3.95 should get into at least 1 of CCN...

This being said, of your current options, Penn with 70k.

So, it's looking like most people are saying that Penn is the way to go, which was my choice when I started the topic. That being said, should I go to Chicago at most likely sticker if I get off the wait-list? I already wrote a Why Chicago essay and a LOCI a week back expressing strong interest.

Chicago has been giving money to some people they take off of the waitlist. Don't assume sticker.

Then Penn will get you back. The employment difference is pretty nominal i'd think, and $70k is a lot of money.
