It should be top 18, not top 14

Why? Because Texas, UCLA, Vandy and USC all have strong national reputations, strong admissions statistics, and good employment statistics. There is a large cutoff in law school quality after USC, which is a league above the rest. So, I don't think there should be some huge line drawn between Cornell and UCLA. The next four schools are high quality as well, but quickly taper off after USC.

What do you think?

Should be T12.

ETA: Congrats on getting into one of Texas, UCLA, Vandy or USC.

Nope, USC is not in the same class of school as MVP CCN. T18 would be meaningless.

False. Those schools don't have nearly the reputation/name recognition/placement as the schools in the T14.

T 14 just has a ring to it. Also the employment statistics of these schools.

Hah, didn't even apply to one of those.

Am I trolling? Perhaps inadvertently. 8)

But they are much closer reputation wise and before ITE they were also closer in job placement.

t13. GULC lost it when UTexas tied. the top 14 are law schools that have been in that top 14 for a loooonng time. So there can only ever be less schools, not more

And then Cornell lost their preftige when they got passed by GULC this year. Hence, T12.

Yeah, but this reasoning can be applied to the T18 as well: the T18 schools are the schools that have been in the top 18 for a long time. It's always been T14 followed by UCLA, Austin, Vandy and USC.

Supposedly the T14 are the T14 because all of them have been in the top 10 (even if only #10) at some point in time. Also they are the truly "national" schools, whatever that means.

I honestly think that lawschooltransparency is the most useful metric to decide where to go to school

I know seriously. Cornell's biglaw placement in nyc biglaw is well known, so I don't understand how it doesn't 'make the cut' as it were. Unless there is some other metric more important than job prospects that I am missing... number of chairs in the library?

Nice. But I was referring to job prospects out of Cornell, and not choosing to live right in the city. Maybe a couple years renting sure, but then move out to westchester, nice parts of long island, or even connecticut would be preferable. Commuting isn't bad, and you can have a house etc...

Cornell's placement is still nothing to sneeze at.

I was really just (semi)jokingly implying that jobs in those stats in New York City shouldn't be counted because it's an awful place to live.

I think sub-tiers are a much more useful classification than "T14". YHS, CCN, etc will tell you more about a school's national reach than "T14" ITE. The lower T14 are becoming more regional.
