Syracuse, NYU, Emory, Fordham?

Emory's location & superior job placement easily justify the cost difference.

Where would you want to work after graduation? What is the actual cost of attendance for each? Where are from/have ties?

Not if OP is paying sticker price. That shit is 200K worth of debt before interest, brah

Syracuse would be 20k a year towards tuition, Emory would be 10k a year towards tuiton.

So where do you want to be after graduation?

Anywhere on the East Coast with the more promising jobs.

@tfleming: OP wrote that Syracuse is only $18,000 cheaper. If accurate, then Emory is easily the better choice. Not even any room for discussion, in my opinion.

Oh, so neither of these.

So if the Emory COA is 200K and Syracuse COA is ~180K, Emory is still a good decision?

That's way too expensive for either one of these.

I never asserted that. I only wrote that between the two with only a minor cost difference, that Emory is clearly the better choice. This was in answer to OP's question.

Syracuse isn't worth that, and that's about the maximum I could stomach taking out to go to Emory - but you have to be OK with living in ATL, even though the top of the class has some more exit options.

Yeah, OP would be better served with alternatives in those areas. UGA is cheaper and comparable to Emory in Atlanta, and University of Buffalo is arguably better than Syracuse for the upstate NY market. Both UGA and UB are cheaper than either of the current options. I can't speak for the Atlanta market, but the upstate NY market is hardly booming with "promising jobs". Neither school's job prospects are worth these current costs. If neither is not an option, Emory would be the lesser evil. However, if I were OP, I'd figure out where I want to work and pick a strong, regional school that is affordable in that area.

Honestly at that price, UGA ends up being pretty much the same.

Atlanta was and still remains a shitshow ITE and kids who are top third at Emory are striking out.

OP: Read that your numbers are 154/3.79. Are you an URM ? Have you gotten off the WashUStL waitlist ?

Off waitlist at WashU but not going with no money.

From NY - would Hofstra be a better bet than Emory for East Coast jobs, possibly tri-state area. Hofstra would cost the same as Syracuse 100K (20 a year to go there) v.s. Emory at 120.
If you want to pay 100K for a 36% chance totally unemployed nine months out of graduation then Hofstra is an excellent choice.

OP for the range of schools you are looking at, you really need to narrow your region down from "east coast". None of these schools are going to provide much portability. I would think that you should be focusing primarily on minimizing debt, along with finding a region that you want to work in. If you are set on a biglaw job, none of these schools are going to provide a solid opportunity for that outside of the top 10% of the class. If you are biglaw or bust, retaking should be your best option. If not, figure out where you want to work and find a school that minimizes your debt load.

Isn't a top tier 1 better than a bottom tier two (hofstra and syracuse)?

Kind of. It's all relative.

Emory is a good choice IF your cost of attendance is reasonable (100kish) AND you you're good with staying in ATL

Hofstra/Cusa are good choices IF you have a job lined up after graduation AND it's almost free

Look through the link I posted and take a look at job placement stats.

Rankings don't really matter outside of the T14.

You're better off going somewhere that's 1) affordable and 2) in the market you want to work in if you're going to a regional school. Emory is probably the better choice over Cuse, but you better be sure you want to work in the Southeast.

Yes, but beyond the T-14 most job placement is regional therefore it's best to attend law school in the geographic region where you intend to practice law.

Yeah, what everyone else said. You really should narrow down your market more. If you're fine with living in upstate NY forever then Syracuse isn't a bad option (although it's still pretty risky at that price. If you want to be in ATL or Georgia, then Emory is the better option.
