Where would you want to work after graduation? What is the actual cost of attendance for each? Where are from/have ties?sportsstar1234 wrote:Syracuse would be 18k total cheaper, but ranking wise, its top tier 1 (25) v.s. bottom 2 (95).
Not if OP is paying sticker price. That shit is 200K worth of debt before interest, brahCanadianWolf wrote:Emory's location & superior job placement easily justify the cost difference.
So where do you want to be after graduation?sportsstar1234 wrote:Syracuse would be 20k a year towards tuition, Emory would be 10k a year towards tuiton.
Oh, so neither of these.sportsstar1234 wrote:Anywhere on the East Coast with the more promising jobs.
So if the Emory COA is 200K and Syracuse COA is ~180K, Emory is still a good decision?CanadianWolf wrote:@tfleming: OP wrote that Syracuse is only $18,000 cheaper. If accurate, then Emory is easily the better choice. Not even any room for discussion, in my opinion.
Syracuse isn't worth that, and that's about the maximum I could stomach taking out to go to Emory - but you have to be OK with living in ATL, even though the top of the class has some more exit options.sportsstar1234 wrote:It'll be 100k v.s. 120k
Yeah, OP would be better served with alternatives in those areas. UGA is cheaper and comparable to Emory in Atlanta, and University of Buffalo is arguably better than Syracuse for the upstate NY market. Both UGA and UB are cheaper than either of the current options. I can't speak for the Atlanta market, but the upstate NY market is hardly booming with "promising jobs". Neither school's job prospects are worth these current costs. If neither is not an option, Emory would be the lesser evil. However, if I were OP, I'd figure out where I want to work and pick a strong, regional school that is affordable in that area.tfleming09 wrote:Oh, so neither of these.sportsstar1234 wrote:Anywhere on the East Coast with the more promising jobs.

That's way too expensive for either one of these.
Honestly at that price, UGA ends up being pretty much the same.bigeast03 wrote:

If you want to pay 100K for a 36% chance totally unemployed nine months out of graduation then Hofstra is an excellent choice.sportsstar1234 wrote:Off waitlist at WashU but not going with no money.
From NY - would Hofstra be a better bet than Emory for East Coast jobs, possibly tri-state area. Hofstra would cost the same as Syracuse 100K (20 a year to go there) v.s. Emory at 120.
OP for the range of schools you are looking at, you really need to narrow your region down from "east coast". None of these schools are going to provide much portability. I would think that you should be focusing primarily on minimizing debt, along with finding a region that you want to work in. If you are set on a biglaw job, none of these schools are going to provide a solid opportunity for that outside of the top 10% of the class. If you are biglaw or bust, retaking should be your best option. If not, figure out where you want to work and find a school that minimizes your debt load.sportsstar1234 wrote:Off waitlist at WashU but not going with no money.

Kind of. It's all relative.sportsstar1234 wrote:Isn't a top tier 1 better than a bottom tier two (hofstra and syracuse)?
Rankings don't really matter outside of the T14.sportsstar1234 wrote:Isn't a top tier 1 better than a bottom tier two (hofstra and syracuse)?
