Top Law Schools

Trying to see if transferring to a T14 school will be realistic.

GPA 3.33 LSAT 160 URM Latino/Mexican 31yr old Male

Accepted Schools: U Kansas $10k/yr sch. U Maine $20k/yr sch.

WL Schools: U Illinois, U Wisconsin, U Miami, UNLV, Santa Clara, UOP McGeorge, Southwestern, Marquette, Drexel, Chapman.

Haven't Heard From: Harvard, USC, Pepperdine, Loyola LA

The general consensus is no, being a minority doesn't help transfers much, and also that it's very dangerous to be thinking 'transfer' before you get a single law school grade.

It's interesting why URM status doesn't help much in transfer admissions. My hunch is that affirmative action in admissions is party designed to offset the supposed 'race bias' in the LSAT and other standardized tests. Obviously, that factor goes out the window when you're dealing with actual grades.

Generally though I think schools just have very few transfer slots, and they're very wary of taking someone who couldn't clearly handle the workload at their other school, whether they're black or Mexican or white or whatever. So you really should be top 15-20% at worst and top 5-10% ideally.
