same law school as ug = bad?

I had pretty much decided to enroll at my UG school for law school when I heard something that sounds kind of stupid, but is still bothering me. I was talking to some former co-workers who told me I should go out of my home state and target market for law school because staying in the same place too long makes you look unambitious/lazy/immature/unable to handle the real world. They don't know anything about legal hiring but I do know there is some truth to this in tech hiring. So what do you think? Is this just misguided advice or is there actually a disadvantage to staying at the same institution?

this actually goes completely against common TLS wisdom, assuming you have an interest in working in the same area when you graduate.

Basically the stupidest advice you could get. Protip: there are a lot of people that know nothing about legal hiring but still want to give you advice about it. Don't listen to them

I have heard this mentality, but it was in reference to being seen as only learning from one viewpoint. But I would say it's a non-issue overall, especially in legal hiring.

awesome! thanks for the input. I wasn't seriously considering changing my decision but it does feel nice to have one less thing bugging me

On the one hand, it shows commitment to the area, which can be great if you want to work in the area. On the other hand, it shows commitment to the area, which can be bad if you want to work somewhere else.

Well I'm doing this too so I hope it's not a problem...
I can't imagine why it would be (especially if you want to stay in the area as the above poster noted.)
