Discounting scholarships, which is the better choice? Does Hofstra place better in NYC?

Discounting scholarships is stupid unless someone else is footing the entire bill. Where are you from, what do you want to do after lawl school, and where do you want to do it.

Maryland I guess? If you're from there. But seriously, only if they are very cheap.
Eta: saw you asked about NYC. I guess hofstra is likely better. Both are poor choices.

I'd prefer NYC, but I'd be happy working in D.C. and wouldn't mind even Baltimore if it came to that. I said "discounting scholarships" because after $$, I'd be paying the same at both.

I don't like to bash schools, but the employment prospects from these schools is less than desirable.

Hofstra:
-Only 64% of their grads found long-term employment of ANY kind after 9 months.
-8% were employed by firms with over 50 lawyers, which is what a job you would need to payoff cost of living in NYC + tuition.
-14% were employed in a PI/Government situation.

These numbers do not justify the cost of attending.

Maryland:
-80% of grads found long-term employment of ANY kind after 9 months
-14% were employed in firms with over 50 lawyers
-27% were employed in a PI/Government setting

Neither of these schools give a strong chance of securing meaningful legal employment, particularly without a large scholarship. Maryland could be worthwhile if the cost is kept low and you don't mind staying in Maryland for a while.

If you are paying 20K per year at both schools- it might not be worth it to go at all.

Also, scholarship stipulations should be a huge consideration.

They don't call it Bosstra for nothing.

Out of these two options I'd go to Maryland. However, I'd strongly consider taking a year off and boosting your lsat a few points. It's worth it.

Also, I know it's not something that you go into school with the intent of doing, and I'm not, but just out of curiosity: what are transfer prospects from Maryland to a T14?

If you're even asking this question, you should think about retaking first.

well, thanks, rad. i'd say you're statistically right. however, i was looking for ballpark figures or even a "chances are generally pretty poor from schools ranked ~40 to T14" or "you'd have to be top 5%".
