Hello everyone,

I come to you in the 11th hour -- I am planning to submit a deposit within the next 24 hours to one of these schools. I have received what amounts to 1/3rd scholarships for both programs, and at the moment am at a bit of a loss.

As someone who loves warm weather and who's lived in the northeast most of my life, I would like to try living somewhere warmer and a bit "different". For this reason, I am currently leaning towards Duke. I hope that the smaller program will give me more of a chance to distinguish myself, while also allowing me to establish a bit more of an identity at the school. Duke also reputedly has a very high standard of living, and seems to be a place where people are happy (or at least happier!)

After law school, I am considering returning to New York City, though nothing is certain. I will most likely target a job in big law, with the aim (like so many others I imagine) of one day slipping into something a bit more relaxed.

What do you guys think? Are these schools basically identical in terms of rank and prospects, and I'm just confusing myself over tiny details?

Yes. Pick whichever one you like. NYC is a good target in this situation as it's the easiest to get from either school.

Nice options, good luck.

michigan may be 10, but its numbers have been sliding.

duke is credited, especially with the slight edge in money.

edited.

...Michigan is 10 this year.

Also, you have a preference for Duke, so go Duke. They're peer schools.

Yes, or so close as to be effectively equivalent.

Thanks guys -- I appreciate the quick replies!

Duke claims that they must receive your deposit by the 27th to reserve a spot, so hopefully I can find a place to overnight a check tomorrow morning.

One side question: what does "credited" mean in this context: "duke is credited, especially with the slight edge in money."

Duke is the credited, or correct, response to the question you posed.

You could just call the admissions office or certify the mailing to show that you at least sent it out on time.
