Berkeley (~28k) v. Reapply

Hi! Okay, so prefacing this with: I'm 4.0/170 (I took the LSAT twice, 170 both times, but the second time included a major freak-out and -8 on one section. It is definitely possible for me to do better if I can get my nerves under control!)

I literally applied on the last day of the cycle for each school. My FAFSA expected family contribution is 0. I got into Berkeley (w 28k fin aid), Georgetown (17 k financial aid) and Cornell (still waiting on $, but it seems unlikely it will be lucrative). I know Berkeley hasn't yet assigned all its merit aid, so it's possible I may get something there, but as it stands: should I accept Berkeley, or should I retake and reapply?

You can reasonably go anywhere from Boalt, so I say, do it!

Yep. Enjoy a lifetime of wondering "What if?"...

+1. Sure, you could snag HYS with a higher LSAT score maybe. But if you panicked once, you could panic again.

Fuck. No one on TLS will ever be happy.

Sure, but excellent options will be available with an early app next cycle, even if OP scores lower.

The OP implied that they are confident they could score higher, and admitted that apps were sent on the last day. One of the rare posters who seems to want people to recommend retaking and reapplying.

The bird in the hand will be there next cycle OP. If you feel you can do better waiting a year isn't going to hurt you in any way.

Also, have you visited Boalt? Do you like Berkeley?

Man, you're gonna love finals time at the law school.

If you'd feel comfortable with a June retake, then try it. Deposit at Boalt, and if you improve your score enough, eat your deposit $ and apply early next year.

Especially because Boalt doesn't require a $ deposit (I think?)

So did you just get a Berkeley Scholly today? I'm trying to figure out if they're sending them out.

It's an honor code thing.

So, just give your word you're going to matriculate and then withdraw!

Yeah that's worth looking into. But I'm sure you could withdraw tactfully and not be like "I'm out because I retook and will have better options than your TTT institution". I'm sure people do this all the time.
