UW-Madison undergrad; 3.7/167.
I grew up in Wisconsin. I would really like to get out of there for a while, but I would like the option of going back to the midwest.
I loved both Emory and Vandy when I visited. Heelllpppp me please

I'm sorry, but Wisconsin here is definitely the right choice. Emory doesn't have enough portability to get you back to Wisconsin, and Vandy at sticker is a non starter unless your parents are contributing.

What is the total COA for each?
I love Vandy and I think it could get you back to the Midwest, but I don't think it is worth sticker for you. Emory might be able to get you back to your home market with the grades, but I also tend to think Wisconsin is the winner here. You have the ties, it is the cheapest, and you would be passing up on networking opportunities throughout the year if you left. In general, relocating to another region for law school just to "get away" is not the best idea. I think no matter where you go, the best odds of you getting a solid job are going to be back home in Wisconsin, so you should probably stay in Wisconsin for that reason.

Well, I am asking for help because I am not sure where I want to work, and I really don't want to end up "stuck" in Wisconsin after graduation. Do you think a WI law degree has any mobility outside of the region?

Wisconsin. In-state tuition is, what? 19k/yr? I think you'd be a fool to walk away from that for Vandy with no $$.

How's your network in WI? Emory might be able to get you back there if you could line a job up afterwards, but would open up a different region to you.
That being said, just remember all of these schools are regional, with Vandy being the most mobile but not exactly nationally mobile.

Is Minnesota with $$ an option? Seems like a feasible way to still get back to Wisconsin but have a change of pace from Madison.

Don't forget that UW graduates are automatically admitted to the Wisconsin Bar.

Have you sent a LOCI? Im attending there in the fall and the seat deposit is at the end of the week. Now would be a good time to send them something.

Well if this is the case... Vandy.

Wisconsin is a good school and it can get you into Chicago at least. Emory probably cannot. 14 lawyers on Martindale from Emory made it back to Wisconsin. None of whom were associates.
I don't know much about Wisconsin, but if you want to be in the midwest, it's a really good option thanks to the auto-bar.
