Top Law Schools

Looking for some advice on where to go to law school. I realize that ls rankings are incredibly important in the legal profession. With that said I can't get over the money offer from Hofstra. Please advise.

Born and raised in Long Island. As of right now I have a public leaning. However, that is -like anything- susceptible to change. I understand income based repayment (as well as loan forgiveness) makes a public sector job feasible while still attending American. With that said, if my interests change I wouldn't be given the same opportunities. I have worked in congressional offices in LI, these offices also have a base in DC.

In that case I'd go hofstra. Especially since you're from the area.

7k from american shouldn't even count as a scholarship. Have you looked at the total cost of attendance at that school? its well over 200K. Hofstra easily. Although you shouldn't attend either.

Not nearly good enough to justify the loans you will take. That level of debt almost necessitates big law to pay it off in a timely fashion. Big law chances are sliiiim. Most likely non-biglaw outcome is $50k (bimodal distribution of first year salaries). You will hate your life.

Yeah American is not worth that amount. I'd either go to hofstra and leave if you lose the scholarship or retake. DC is a really overcrowded market. GW is not worth going to without very significant $$$. Let alone catholic American gmu etc.

If I'm making 50k in the public sector -with income based repayment options- wouldn't that put me at around 500 dollars repayment a month?

Public sector work is hard to get.

501c3? Yes. They guarantee people freedom from debt after 10 years via PSLF and they rare, that means they end up pretty competitive (on top of the fact that the bleeding heart types already want to do them).

Also, from American, just legal work in general is not assured.

In 2010 only 65.4% of those reporting got bar passage required jobs. Also these jokers didn't say what percentage reported. Shady as hell.

65.4% of the percentage of American grads that actually reported their job status, got jobs that required passing the bar. Meaning at least 34.6% of American grads do not get jobs as lawyers.
