Case (35K) vs. Stetson (Full+Stipend)

*Plan on retaking in June but would like an option in case that test doesn't work out just like the first 2.
Could really use some advice- 3.92 with 2 LSAT takes: 159/163

-Case-35K (no stips)
-Stetson-Full+Stipend (top 50%)
-Ties: Born in Columbus, raised in Cleveland and attended undergrad in Ohio. Family in midwest
-Career Goals: Not biglaw or bust- would prefer a firm gig obviously but not opposed to government/PI
figure this will become more clear in LS, but not feeling the biglaw hours
-debt averse
-would rather work in FL than CLE, but a job comes first

Thanks!

Case easily, assuming you won't retake the LSAT.

Stetson if you'd rather be in FL. Case if you'd rather be in OH.

You have no ties to Florida, so I would cross it off the list right there

Limiting my comment to your question between Case Western Reserve with $35,000 per year scholarship versus Stetson's offer of a full tuition scholarship plus stipend, it depends upon where you want to begin your career. Stetson offers a great deal of financial freedom whereas Case Western offers flexibility & familiarity.

Legal hiring in Ohio is rough going. Ideal position for you would be to attend a top 14 so you can hit up major markets (I.E NYC) while still having Cleveland/Columbus as viable options.

That said Case > Stetson.

Don't waste the GPA. But if you have to go next year go to Case.

Retake or go to Stetson and party like a rockstar.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm retaking in June, and I think anything 166+ would definitely warrant sitting out this cycle and reapplying next year. I've been my own worst enemy on both my writings of the LSAT, so I figured knowing I had a decent option already in my pocket on test day would maybe relax my nerves. Sounds like Retake/Reapply>>>>>Case>>Stetson, I'd probably be best off sitting out next year regardless and submitting early apps to OSU plus hopefully T14s w/ an improved LSAT.

Thanks a lot!! This advice has been very helpful!

Good luck in your retake. Case is better than Stetson here but reapply or don't go are the best options of all.

Woah buddy... with a 163 + 3.9x you should do UVA ED. YOu are a shoe in for UVA next cycle.

In the mean time you can retake. If you can improve that lsat a little bit more, you might not need to do UVA ED.

IMO going to UVA sticker is a better bet than case or Stenson full scholarship. Job prospects for all kinds of jobs are infinately better at UVA vs Case/Stenson no matter the region.

I hadn't thought of that, but it seems like a great option. A lot of debt but much better job prospects. Sounds like I have nothing to lost with the retake. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice and good wishes everyone!

Thanks a lot! The more I think about this, the better I feel. If I go straight from undergrad to LS, then I'll have no professional work experience when it comes down to getting a job. A year off would allow me to get work experience, save money, and get into a school with better job prospects. I'll also pick up golf, so I can network on the greens :)

I think TLS saved me. Thanks!
