NYU vs. Berkeley

Hey everyone!

I'm on spring break visiting NYU and Berkeley trying to figure out where I should go. So far, haven't gotten scholarship money from either, although Berkeley hasn't gotten back to me on that yet. And now that the new rankings are out...Berkeley is only 1 rank behind NYU.

A little about me:
I'm an Economics/Chinese double major, Spanish minor graduating from the University of Oklahoma in May. I am interested in WTO law/international law, intellectual property law (with the Chinese component, this could definitely have an international aspect as well), and law and economics.

NYU is first in international law; Berkeley is first in intellectual property law.

The locations are also TOTALLY opposite, but I could see myself living either place.

Thoughts?

International law doesn't really exist, and you can't take the patent bar without a hard sciences background. So, throw those considerations out the window.

He said IP, not patent.

OP I think if you're really interested in Chinese law, NYU might be ahead in that regard, although Berkeley is really trying to build its faculty. We just hired a new guy for that program. Berkeley did also just hire a law and econ guy and I've heard really good things about his classes.

Do you know what you actually want to do, based on these interests?

Would you prefer to live in NYC or SF?

Visit during ASW and see which one you like better, unless Berkeley throws scholly $ at you.

NYU has some impressive Chinese resources.

Not sure if this will help, but UCal-Berkeley has a third year exchange/ visiting student program with Harvard Law School. Thus, if you don't find everything that you're seeking at Berkeley, Harvard Law may be able to fill any gap.

Which city has better Chinese food?

(Semi-serious question, for personal edification, not decision-making purposes.)

Pick Berkeley and you'll be able to see China from your house.
