Stats: 3.68 172 (VA resident)

I was originally planning to apply next round, aiming for CCN, but decided to use fee waivers and applied to only UVA and G'Town very late in the game, almost as an afterthought to my December LSAT score. Did not apply to any other school because I was afraid that being denied this round would influence my chances next round.

UVA offered 60k. G'Town is Part-Time; it comes with the benefit of being able to keep my job and get a bit of reimbursement (30 to 40 K total) from my employer, at the expense of one extra year and missing out on LR and Moot Court.

UVA's offer caught me off guard, to be honest. Even if I apply next round, I doubt that I can get comparable offers from other tier schools. I might have a shot at CCN, but they will likely come at sticker.

The part-time program is a whole different beast. The advantage is that if I fail in law school, I will still retain my career in the Gov.

I would like to go Biglaw, preferably in CA. But NY, DC, Midwest are all fine.

Should I take any of these offers? or should I try for next round?

I would reapply next year and do GULC PT. You will likely get more money for scholarship next year. Or you can ask them this year for more scholarship.
If you apply next year, I would blanket the T14 including HYS. If you get into HYS then you should go no questions asked. If not, then maybe consider scholarship totals for lower T14 schools.

Thank you very much for the input. My only fear is that by rejecting UVA's offer, they would be reluctant to give me money in the future. Is that not an issue?

why don't you flat out ask them for money money? Tell them your situation. Then try negotiating with GULC? It doesn't hurt to ask.

I actually think you have a couple pretty good options here, but if you decide to reapply, make sure you stress in your withdrawal letters that you don't feel ready for law school at this time and will be reapplying next year. That might soften the blow for UVA and Georgetown, assuming you'd still be interested in them next cycle.

this is the rare situation where i dont know reapplying is better. ur a va resident so u save about 5k a yr so it's as though u have 75k in money, which is not bad for your #s. also, u want big law, and uva does well there compared to gt.

I'm a VA resident with very similar numbers to you (173, 3.6X that is slightly lower than yours) that applied to most of the T14 early this cycle. I received no money from UVA but have been accepted to some other T14 with money.

Given that UVA offered you money (and that we are pretty much number twins), I would assume that some of your softs made you a more attractive candidate than residents with similar numbers. So I would think that they really like you and would most likely offer you money again next year. This is all just speculation on my part though, haha..

I have identical numbers as you. LITERALLY IDENTICAL down to the hundredth. For what it's worth I got into NYU and Columbia but likely with zero money at both. I'd take the sweet offer at UVA if I were you unless you want NYC for sure, then wait a year and you'll get into NYU for sure, Columbia probably not (honestly I don't know how I got in this year).

UVA and don't look back.

This one is hard. I'm inclined to say, provided you like UVA, to take UVA.

(If you don't care for UVA then that is a different story.)

Ask if theyd let you switch to full time later. That would give you more options as well

I know this REALLY shouldn't change my game plan at all, but man......now I really want to go.....

Assuming your numbers remain the same, I don't think your options would be all that different this time next year - probably an acceptance to one of the NYC schools, but at sticker, in which case UVA would still be your best bet. (Although, if your employer is willing to give you a salary and pay part of your tuition bill, GULC would be a very close second.)

The problem is, even if you wait another year, take the test again and get like a 176, you're still a splitter with a 3.68 at CCN, meaning you probs will not get money from them.

Also, just me, but working full time then going to GULC would not make me the happiest person.

UVA unless you are really set on practicing in CA. From what I understand, most UVA grads end up in the DC area. I know there is a lot of self-selection there, but you won't have nearly as much of a network in CA.

Congrats on the $$ to UVA, it's a great option.

If your goal is really CA biglaw, UVA is a poor choice even with twice the money.

You're unlikely to have appreciably better results next year. For your goals, maybe Berkeley would be a better choice but you're nowhere near certain to get in there. Nowhere else is likely to be better for you even if you reapply. I'd go to UVA.

No idea if this can be done but I would consider retake + seat deposit to UVA.
