Top Law Schools

I'm wondering if Michigan State with 75% scholarship with a 2.50 gpa stip would be worth it? I want to go into criminal law, eventually working for the DA.

I have other options available: Iowa (OOS and tuition TBA), Tennessee (scholarship TBA), and Oregon ($). I think I've disregarded most of my other options due to poor legal markets.

Background: I have ties to Chicago but DePaul/Kent/Loyola did not give me enough money to entertain attending there. I did my undergrad at Iowa and would love to return, but am not considering it unless the scholarship money is a good offer.

Basically, is attending MSU an okay position? I'd be fine living in MI as I don't really have any geographical preference.

Do you have in-state tuition for Iowa? Stipulations from MSU?

Looks like OP would have more to worry about than just that scholly if they had a sub-2.5 GPA.

FWIW everybody gets in-state tuition second and third years at Iowa.

IA offers everybody RA positions, so all second and third years that are out of state do them.

Only 10% of MSU 2010 class were employed full time in a legal gig that paid 60k or more.

Money isn't an issue. I don't expect to make 60k working for the government right out the gate. Hence minimizing my debt as much as possible.

It means that, in the context of your scholarship stipulations, there is only a very small chance of you losing the scholarship.

As Martha Stewart once said: it's a good thing.

If you get below a 2.5 you should drop out anyway.

Are you from Michigan? If so, maybe not a bad call. If not, then it's a bad call.

I'm not from MI but I'm from Chicago and the legal market is way more competitive there.

The problem is that employers in MI prefer to hire people committed to Michigan, which, let's face it, you're not.
