Top Law Schools

If I want a degree that is portable, do I choose UCLA or UT? Hyothetically, if I want to move to the east coast, which of these schools would be a better choice?

If you want the east coast I'd recommend T14/GW/Fordham/BU/BC over UT/UCLA/USC. Heck I'd also easily recommend Vandy over them.

If you want the east coast and are, for some weird reason, choosing between UT/UCLA then I would decide whether based on, if you didn't get the east coast, if you would rather end up in CA or TX (assuming similar cost).

Why are you limiting your options to these two law schools if you are targeting the East Coast & have a 3.7/170 ?

Regarding "reach", I envision UCLA as a long finger extending from San Diego to Seattle & Texas as a hand covering the state of Texas. Both, however, encompass a lot of airports.
