If you're afraid of defending a law school choice in front of friends and family don't go to law school. You'll need thicker skin.

Try to keep it in perspective so it sounds less like bragging. For example: "I could pay to attend a school that could help me land a job, but since odds are I won't find one either way, I'm taking some scholarship money so my debt is less crushing when I graduate." That should smooth things over quite nicely!

Just wondering what your feelings are on the subject, as I am sure many of you are in similar positions. I was beyond blessed to receive a full scholarship offer at a school ranked in the 60s, but am nervous to tell others in my family and friends that I will be attending a "lesser" university. I am curious as to how you all approach friends and family - do you qualify your information by saying, yeah but I am not going to pay at all, or do you just bite your tongue and accept that you have basically traded in your numbers for a boat load of money.

--I have not yet decided 100% to attend that school, but received the offer on Friday, took a visit over the weekend and just thought the program/facilities were terrific. Still waiting on a bunch of other schools, but am definitely excited by the offer, and the impulsive side of me wants to go ahead and begin looking for housing in the area.

I hate law students.

I never understood this until I started spending more time on these boards. Pettiness, a horrid sense of entitlement and soul-crushing cynicism don't even begin to describe the dysfunctional personalities of most law students.

Was his question really that bad? He never said he was mortified of his school, just curious as to whether or not he should preface his decision with the reasoning behind it.

That being said, I don't think you should add the scholarship information unless asked why you're attending the school you are.

Agreed. It's unacceptable to disclose to random acquaintances your reasons for attending a law school, as it is likely that they couldn't care less. This is especially egregious if they are your peers at said law school. But explaining your rationale to family and close friends is perfectly fine.
