Colorado and Virginia

Odd combination, I know, but my wife and I live in Colorado. My family and "network" is here, but she has family in East TN and VA so we'd be happy either place.

CU is our first choice, if I get in this whole conversation is over (I already qualified for in-state). That might not be likely given that I've already been rolled from ED to Regular decision at CU (164/2.3), I'm left with the following choice:

DU at sticker vs. U Richmond, maybe sticker (they won't know about $$ for me until late March)
I would love to clerk and/or work in the PD/DA office, and DU sends out 0 clerks while Richmond cranks out lots of them (but with no LRAP program).

Is this as easy a decision as I think it is (Richmond wins) or am I missing something?

Thanks, internet, for helping me make important life decisions.

Do you have work experience after college ? Or is the 2.3 GPA a recent accomplishment ?

To answer your question: If both DU & Richmond are sticker, then decide whether you want to live in Colorado or in the Tidewater/Virginia/Maryland area.

The 2.3 is the product of a whole bunch of credit hours at 2.0 from 10-7 years ago, with a 3.94 from the 30-40 credits I've taken this past year to finish my degree. Addressed it in an addendum. Plenty of work and service experience. Pro musician.

Also, on the WL @ W&L, but wife isn't terribly enthused about Lexington, and I doubt I'd see any $ off the wait list with my #'s there.

GMU will probably accept you unless their LSAT median has gone up to 165. :dunno:

I always found Lexington/Rockbridge County charming. It has a very 'Old Virginia' feel to it. Obviously, it's different just passing through a small town than living there, but charming nonetheless.

By the way, does anyone know if Robert E. Lee's office is still maintained at Washington & Lee? I had a professor who had graduated from Washington & Lee (brilliant guy, by the way - he loved his time at W&L) who told an interesting story about how the College preserved Lee's office as it was on the day he died.

Damn you're helpful.

Unfortunately, even with work experience, you probably can't get into CU with a 2.3. And with DU's job prospects...I don't think I'd go there at sticker. It's quite expensive. I'd start seriously looking at VA schools.

Yes it is, that's why I applied there. Love your tar btw.

That's what I'm thinking regarding CU. DU was also probably a "no dough no go" situation. In a recent e-mail with UofRichmond folks they said my LSAT might still get me some money, though obviously not as much as if my GPA was better. Going to Richmond next month for a visit. I think, barring fluke acceptances to either W&M or CU, Richmond is where we're headed. I also just looked around and noticed that somewhere around half the local Commonwealth's Attorneys (VA DA's) are URichmond grads. That at least seems promising for my interest in criminal prosecution or defense.

They seem much more interested in GPAs this cycle.

do not uproot for any of these schools. In other words stay in Colorado and go to Denver if you can. You'd be nuts to move across the country for Richmond or any school you'd get into basically. These schools are all the same. Any perceived differences come in the way they are marketed. They seize on different things in their marketing materials to fool those unfamiliar. Denver's reputation in Colorado is equal to Richmond's reputation in Virginia and neither school will travel or provide substantial leap in prospects over the other.

Richmond may offer some scholarship money because your LSAT is above 75%. Decide whether you want to live & work in Virginia or Colorado. (In my opinion, CU is unlikely due to your GPA. If you had a 165 LSAT, then your odds for admission would rise substantially since their median remains at 164. CU, however, is rumored to be a very hardworking & serious, yet not cutthroat, environment.)

Did you apply to Utah ?

This isn't useful. All schools are like this.

Likewise, I find your "advice" to be useless. My advice is intended for OP, not for you. Do you have any actual knowledge of the three schools being considered by OP ? (CU is much more intense than DU or Richmond based on current students comments.)

Current student at CU. Only two law schools in the state and CU has developed its reputation for serious academics over many decades. I think CU and DU are both great but from the students I know at both schools there is a big difference in work ethnic for the average student. Everyone I know at DU jokes about how they didn't start outlining till a week before finals. I'm sure they will all end up being good advocates, etc, but my point is that this type of attitude is not at CU. The only student in the 1L class that did that here already has a job with Denver big law when he is out- and yes, the class is small and tight-nit so I have a pretty good idea on how much everyone is studying/gunning/networking.

Compared to DU, I'd say CU is disgustingly gunner oriented. Just my two cents. At least employers go deeper into the class at CU than DU, I suppose this is suppose to make up for the difference.

Plus Colorado is in BOULDER. I mean... we've all seen the pictures. It's awesome.

CU almost certainly won't let you in. My in-state friend there had a similar GPA to you (higher than yours, but still sub-3), a LSAT above CU's 75th percentile and a few years of WE with no luck.

Pretty much have no idea what this means. I dragged the image between the two [img] thingies and it didn't work. Just had its source code surrounded by thingies.
