Tulane or FSU?

3.81, majored in economics and political science & 162 on October 2011. I provided my numbers as a gauge of the kind of money I'd get from either school, if I would even get any money at wither of these schools at all (probably not). So basically the question is the following: Tulane at sticker or FSU at sticker? I am a Florida resident as well. Whichever school is winning the poll exactly 24 hours from now is where I will attend in the fall. A bit wreckless, I know, but what the heck.

Ask yourself one simple question: Do you want to go to school with a convicted murderer, or no?

If yes: Tulane.

If no: FSU.

I am pretty out of the loop when it comes to this sort of thing. What exactly are you talking about?

There was a news story recently about a student who was admitted after he was released from prison after being convicted of murder. Some controversy with that.

Even with that consideration aside, FSU instate sticker over Tulane instate sticker if you want to work in FL (or, if the grades are good and you feel so inclined, ATL). Soooo much cheaper.

EDIT: Also, this:

Empirically speaking, chances are I won't get any money from either of these places. Tulane was kind of a reach in the first place.

I'm not gonna lie to you, Mr. Pancakes. Your avatar scares me to death.

I agree, though. Seems odd that the OP doesn't have any other options (especially in Florida).

OP sould go to Tulane over FSU by a longshot, even though the fashion in which the murder was committed was grizzly. He was a rape victim who flipped out. He also had other problems, but he has turned it around. Gee, you mean the system actually works once in awhile? Isn't that why we want to go into this profession in the first place?

There have been murderers at potentially every law school in the country, only the students don't usually find out about it. Chillax. The guy is a walking discourse on the topic of "redemption". A true student of the law would welcome the challenging and thoughtful discussions that will take place. Tulane is satisfied that he poses no more threat than any other student and would not place in jeopardy its students' safety.

PDaddy: I'll assume you aren't serious... Did you not read the police report? The kid was hitchhiking. He was picked up by the professor (someone he knew previously). The two went to the professors house, smoked marijuana, got naked, and the professor performed oral sex on the ADULT MALE. Once the murderer got his rocks off, he stabbed the professor repeatedly, stole his money, and fled the scene and stayed on the run for over a year until he was caught. There is no mention of rape in the police report, and it is hard to imagine a 50+ year old man able to give a blow job to an unwilling adult male less than half his age. Don't try to make the kid out to be a victim.

i was an undergrad at tulane, all there is to do is drink...it does not have a good reputation..besides this entire law school murder guy, several years ago an undergrad student murdered a police officer who drove off and and was drunk and went on the run, then he later got caught or turned himself in and only got 6 months in a boot camp because he paid his way off....or the tulane hazing incident where a fraternity held a fellow student down and tortured him until his flesh was burnt off and the muscles were showing, 2nd and 3rd degree burns to 40% of his body and tulane then didn't allow that student (victim) to come back and attend even though he was on a scholarship...like in the first incident, the kids paid their way off...in my opinion that school is going to receive some serious negative publicity because of this once the media catches wind of this, the administration is so lazy, all tulane tries to do is make money. that is why their faculty usually leave every couple years..i regret going there, but i got a huge scholarship, i should have chosen wake forest...the sad thing is that i knew who the kid was and from what it said in the papers, he wasn't offered a penny by the school and had over 100 grand in burn treatments done...but choose FSU...new orleans is not the place you want to live for law school...sorry to be so bashful on the school, but i really did not enjoy the university one bit.

It's pretty easy to be an armchair critic on this issue when one is as wrong, self-righteous, and far away from Tulane as you are.

Tulane is really a joke. I'd go to FSU. Job prospects are a full fledged horror show from both schools for sure, but at least you aren't paying into the hundreds of thousands for FSU

Want to work in government... in Florida? Go to FSU because that's the only area where they place well. Otherwise, go to Tulane, unless, like everyone else has said, you would be paying sticker.

For those who would be scared to be on campus with Bruce Reilly, what do you think are the chances of getting murdered by Mr. Reilly compared to, say, getting mugged by some random person in NOLA or any other metropolitan city in the U.S.? Compared to getting hit by a car? Killed by a shark? Hit by an asteroid?

Or, do you have a problem with his admittance in principle? If so, no one cares, including NOLA firms who have been employing Tulane grads for years.

Are you serious? You really think this guy has a shot to get a job at a firm when he graduates? The legal field is very conservative... I know people who got no-offered because of a military tattoo that was visible in a short sleeve shirt. Firms want professional (and professional looking) employees. If a firm were to hire this guy, I can only imagine how many clients they'd lose due to his background. This guy will be avoided like the plague. Not to mention, this guy may not even have the chance to get a firm job as he may not pass C&F.

Oh! Sorry, I don't think I was clear. I wasn't saying that Reilly would have a shot at a firm job. From reading his blog, I seriously doubt he'd want to do that type of work anyway. I was saying that NOLA law firms most likely don't care that Tulane admitted Reilly. I doubt Tulane job prospects for most students, which aren't phenomenal as is but are better than similarly ranked schools, will be hurt by the scandal. In other words, I'm not sure why a 0L should be worried about Reilly when considering Tulane, unless they irrationally believe that they would be in danger to some relevant extent more than on any other campus.

Okay, so I got 25,000/year from Tulane contingent upon maintaining a 3.0. Still no money from FSU. Can I maybe use this sort of thing as leverage to get some money from FSU? I mean, in my humble opinion, numbers aside, I am a pretty swell guy,

Did you receive an email from FSU about an application for scholarships? If you did, you will find out by Feb. 15, but if you did not, I'm not sure you will receive one (but I'm not sure)

I honestly don't think you'll have much luck negotiating for scholarships because your numbers are just average, but if you don't have anything to lose, why not?
