NYU vs Michigan

I´m split between NYU (sticker) and Michigan (probably sticker).

I´m originally from Michigan, did my undergrad at Michigan, and am interested in studying public international law. I eventually want to practice in NYC or Washington DC.

I know NYU has a better PI and international law program as well as a great dual degree program with the Woodrow Wilson Institute. However, I think I might do better academically at Michigan since I´m familiar with Ann Arbor and the atmosphere is suppose to be more collegial. I`m not a competitive type and am a little nervous about the more cutthroat atmosphere at NYU. Plus, I`ll have to adjust to living in box in nyc. But I´m definitely willing to sacrafice lifestyle if it means better job prospects upon graduating, provided I do well enough a NYU.

What do you think, is NYU the smarter choice because of my interests and the school´s reputation on the east coast, or should I go to Michigan where I think I might do better academically?

Thanks for any help :)

Michigan will be cheaper, but NYU will be better for top NYC placement.

They will both be competitive, however you won't have to worry about it as much at NYU since they place a few more grads into top NYC firms. The deciding factors should be cost and placement ability. You need to decide how much the extra placement ability is worth to you.

Review these carefully, then realize that there are more considerations than the raw numbers reflect.
