Did I get a good offer tonight?

So I wanted to start school ASAP and applied to Baylor because they have a spring admission and they have a solid reputation for hard work. I am not thrilled about Waco, but I have lived in small towns happily before this time. Early this evening I got a call from their admissions and I'm in for Spring, with a full ride all 3 years ($125,000). I have a 3.77 and 171 and loads of WE and good softs. I think I'm a good candidate for Duke or Georgetown or at least one of the lower T14. I have apps in with them all. Opinions? The money is dazzling my eyes, but I have resources/strategies to go to another school.

Baylor is a shithole. I'd never recommend it to anyone, but I'd especially recommend against it for someone like you who has the potential to get into worthwhile law schools and get into much better schools than Baylor with full tuition scholarship to boot.

You can get much better schools on full scholarship with those numbers, I'd imagine.

Absolutely not.

You're a strong candidate for all but HYSCCN, and would likely get cash from your pick of T25's. Blanket the T14, sit back, and enjoy.

Yes. Take it before they change their minds and revoke the offer!

It's a risk-reward situation. 3.77/171 will get you money at MVPDN and might get you into NYU or Chicago. If you want big law, your expected return from these schools is way higher than at Baylor. However, the worst-case outcome from Baylor (no job and only $50k or so in debt from living expenses) is worsebetter than the worst-case outcome from MVPDN (no job and $200k in debt).

Don't do it. You're in at multiple T14's. Even if you want to go the extreme debt-minimization route, you will still get big scholarships at schools much better than Baylor.

I may be a little slow... but I am not following this.

I feel like wanting to start "ASAP" indicates an insufficient grasp of the legal hiring process for someone about to spend 3 years/$$ on a law degree.

Is this really not a flame?

If you're serious, go to MVP with a 1/2 ride or possibly DNCG

He could conceivably get a full ride from a school as high as GW (if he applied ED like... yesterday). No reason to go to Baylor under any circumstances. And top 10 OCI was quite good this year. The odds would be in OP's favor, surely.

Can you please explain the bolded?

You can get at least one T-14 with some money.

Assuming this is not a flame, there are absolutely no circumstances under which you should even CONSIDER going to Baylor with those numbers.

Decide where you want to practice, blanket anywhere in the T30 that will place well there (T14 plus any strong regionals in the area you want to end up). You will end up with some great acceptances, and solid money at a lot of good schools.

Screw the spring start program or whatever, this is the rest of your life and your career you are talking about, so to throw away good prospects and go to a sh*thole like Baylor just to start a semester earlier would be 100% idiotic/certifiably insane.

I think he's referring to their reputation for competitiveness/gunnerishness. Which is pretty firmly established.

Echo what everyone is saying . If you're super debt adverse, you could pull full-rides out of BU, GW, WUSTL, which is much, much better than Baylor.

Honestly though, you should be going to at least MVP.

If you were REALLY quick and could complete the ED requirements (including getting to Chicago pretty rapidly for an interview) you could probably get a full ride at Northwestern. You're above both medians and have WE.

OP has a 3.77, NU's median GPA is 3.8, yes?

You're right. I was looking at ok'd numbers from LSN. OP is at 75th for LSAT though, and being just under GPA median with good sifts and WE, it may be worth a shot.
