Top Law Schools

While no one knows what exactly is going to happen in life, they can still prepare the best they can. I don't know what I am going to do, but the way I want to steer my path is becoming an a3 clerk out of ls, entering academia for a few years, and then either returning to the courtroom as a judge or becoming a politician. These are all idealistic goals, I know. But what schools should I consider that will give me the best chance at this? I know the obvious, HY...but try to look a little lower

Idealistic is an understatement. That said, you are right, there is no point in not trying. TCR is probably the highest ranked school you can get into. Outside of HYS, Chicago places well into clerkship and academia. ED there if you have a shot. If not, try to get into MVPB. Any lower than than the T10 and your chances are going to be extremely slim.

Focus on achievable goals. Your idealistic career path is unlikely in the extreme even for YHS students. Get in the best law school you can afford. Then start worrying about how to take the next step.

ETA: What you need to do to become a judge/politician is very different from what you need to do to become a A3 clerk or law professor. For the former you can go to a law school that isn't top-tier so long as you start working hard and volunteering for winning local and statewide political campaigns.

Law review at HYS or Chicago should get your started! Good luck!

What schools are you looking at? LSAT/GPA?

This is a silly thread. A3 clerkship placement data for each school is widely available, and no school can get you a judgeship or political position. Besides, why post anonymously here?

NYU just hired a guy away from Chicago who went to law school at Michigan, for what it's worth. Michigan's only... top 7?

NB: said prof graduated had a full ride from Michigan (probably went because he wanted to do public interest and was from the area) and graduated first in his class.
