Transfer up from Top 20 vs Top 30
I am NOT attending either school planning to transfer, but I'm curious if everyone thinks it would be easier to transfer up from USC, ranked 18, than transferring from Fordham, ranked 30. I was waitlisted at 3 top 14 schools and wouldn't mind giving it one more shot if I perform in the top 10%.

You have a 90% of not ending up in the top 10% so stop worrying about what happens if you end up there.
If you really want another legitimate shot at the T14, retake/reapply.

Well I'm definitely going to one. Just curious because some have said being in the top 20 would make it easier while others have said the difference doesn't really matter in this case because people transfer into top 10 from top 50-70.

Probably slightly better chances at USC since I believe the 25th/Median/75th for GPA and LSAT are higher (don't quote me on this).
From what I've seen though, Top 10% at USC is very good chances for one of CCN.

Thanks stylishlaw. The median for USC is about 3 points higher for the LSAT and .1 for GPA. Any idea of luck people from Fordham have had in transferring up? Most people have told me it's all about GPA, but I'm worried that a USC 10% would beat a Fordham 10%. Do they look at involvement on campus or just GPA do you think?

You seem to keep trying to rationalize USC to yourself when it doesn't line up with your career goal of working in NYC and it costs more than Fordham.
If you really want USC that badly why are you looking to TLS to justify it when they obviously won't?

I'd be happy with either school, just trying to take everything into account when making my decision. I'd ideally like to end up at NYU or Columbia and just wondering if either offers a better shot. I'd never go to one over the other hoping to transfer, it would just be good to know if transferring from USC was POSSIBLE while transfering from Fordham to NYU/Columbia would be impossible due to it's lower ranking and I'm sure heavy population of students trying to transfer to those schools.

If you do well enough at Fordham to transfer to NYU/CLS, you probably should stay at Fordham.

This is a good point. Fordham is well respected in NYC so if your goal is to stay in NYC you'd most likely be better off at the top of your class at Fordham than median at NYU/CLS.ndirish2010 wrote:If you do well enough at Fordham to transfer to NYU/CLS, you probably should stay at Fordham.

You could transfer from either school. Not really a huge difference as long as you are top 10% (and probabaly even higher) at each. Slight edge to USC overall, BUT probably outweighed by CLS and NYUs familiarity with Fordham transfers. (Plus easier to interview, meet with the deans and just make a more positive imrpession).

Do NYU and CLS grant interviews during the transfer process?
