For real man, we just had three pages of discussion on this TONIGHT. The 15k doesn't really change anything.

Because lots of people already expressed their opinion/vote on the other thread and, therefore, did not bother to vote here. You issue is almost identical to the other thread. Go there and read the opinions/discussions.

The other guy said he'd be happy working in Boston. Plus secondarily there's the extra 15K. Plus he went to an Ivy undergrad so he doesn't need the prestige as much as you.

I thought I'd post here instead of creating another whole thread (and yes I am aware of the other, similar thread).

I too just got off the Cornell wait list and am also getting money from BU ($45k). It seems like unless I were to really want to work in Boston, most/all will recommend choosing Cornell. However, there are a handful of reasons why I'd be inclined to choose BU. Please let me know if you think any of them are valid.

-I strongly prefer a city environment to a small college town. Wouldn't there also be more opportunities for internships during the school year in a city like Boston compared to Ithaca?

-BU is giving me some money. While $45k isn't a full ride, it's still a good chunk of change.

-I was thoroughly impressed by the BU faculty and felt an instant connection with the BU students on the school's preview day. Also, since it's so late in the admissions cycle, I'd be picking Cornell without seeing what its students or teachers are like.

-I'm gay, and the thought of repeating my undergrad experience, small(er) school in a small town, is VERY unappealing to me. I want that sense of community that often exists in major metropolitan areas.

-I'm not entirely sure that Big-Law is for me. I may eventually have to take out some loans, but I'm not planning to for my first year.

Sure I could suck it up since it's only 3 years, but 3 years is still a long time and I'd hate to be unhappy during that time only to discover that it wasn't really worth it.

If anybody here goes to Cornell or BU, I'd be extra curious to see what you have to say.

Thanks!

It sounds to me like you really want to go to BU and although I might choose Cornell in this instance, I think your preferences/lifestyle/goals seem to be pointing to BU.

Buuuut....if you want someone to play devil's advocate here, then here goes:
(i) internships don't really matter until 2L (and usually then not until the Spring), at which point if you are lucky you already have a job lined up for the summer, so the benefit is somewhat secondary;
(ii) I got along just fine with the profs/students at Cornell so I don't see why you wouldn't; and (iii/iv) my impression is that you have some money socked away in which case taking on sticker at Cornell is less problematic than if you were going to be coming out with 210k in debt -- in which case you may not need biglaw, but regardless will have more options with a Cornell degree (particularly if you want to practice outside of Boston).

I know CoL differs between BU and Cornell, but so does tuition. To the tune of 11k a year or so. Even taking out CoL (say 5k over 10 months) it does add about 20k to the gap, and when adding that to the schollies ppl are getting, it isn't exactly insignificant.
