Hey...just got into GM off the waitlist with a 5K scholarship. Emory is offering 36K, but I love the DC area. Anyone know of GM's yellow ribbon fund? Any thoughts on the decision here or is it a no brainer? Thanks

I just did a quick search and it looks like GMU only gives $1000/year (I think) for the Yellow Ribbon Program. I could be wrong or it could be changed, but that doesn't seem like much to me. (source:

Is that 5k/year from GMU and 36k/year from Emory, or is it total? Are you in-state at GMU?

Just so you know, even if Emory doesn't offer a Yellow Ribbon program you can still use your Post 9/11 GI Bill there. I think the cap next year is like $17500, so if GM only gives $1K ( $2K due to matching) you are better off taking the larger scholarship offer from Emory. As much as Emory has been bashed lately its still a better school than GM.

This IS a no-brainer. Go to Emory.
I'm assuming the ELS scholarship is $12K/yr, not $36K/yr, but even then: it's a no-brainer. Emory, despite recent woes, will still send a non-trivial number of kids into Biglaw. Kids above median will still by and large get decent jobs.
GM will not send you into Biglaw unless you are IP eligible.

Emory not only seems completely out of touch with their students, but it is also a sinking ship. I'd go somewhere else.
