Which law school ? Are you a full-time or part-time law student ?

Tell this to the administration - they might be willing to switch you. Although, I would check with your school's work policy for 1L's before you try to use work as an excuse. Some schools strictly forbid working as a 1L.

I've heard stories that at some schools it is possible to lobby for different sections if the reason is solid enough - child care, for instance.

If you are full time- then talk to admissions to see if you can work. The ABA only allows for 20 hours of work a week, but some schools frown on that for 1L.

Whatever you do, don't talk to the people in charge of this (administration).

p.s. I hope you get my sarcasm.

Also, the best excuse is the actual one - truth is always the right answer, especially when it should not hurt you.

edited: you are breaking ABA rules. You should stop breaking those rules.

I thought you weren't allowed to work at all your 1st semester if you are full time?

Tell the truth. If you need to work, and the school has a PT program- maybe PT is a better option for you. If you lie to them- then you will have no credibility in the future, and will risk a whole lot more. Telling the truth is always the best idea, and explaining yourself is also a great idea. Worst they can say is no, and if you dont like it- you still dont have to matriculate.

Depends on the school. For accreditation, the ABA sets a limit of 20 hrs/week (I believe for any year), but strongly discourages 1L work. However, some schools will look the other way on 1L work, as long as it doesn't interfere with studies.
