Deferral Question-Unsure What Board to Post In

Post by craygar » Wed May 04, 2011 3:09 pm

I just sent in a deposit, and plan on deferring. I am really excited to go to the school where I sent my deposit, but I am still on the waitlist at my top choice. Can I send in my deferral and stay on the waitlist at the other school? If I get in off the waitlist, can I go to my top choice? Thank you for your help? This is a purely substantive question, I am unsure what the rules are in this instance.

If you are deferring from a law school where the deferral is binding then you can't come off a waitlist, once you defer. In that situation it is a done deal and if you decide not to go to that school you aren't allowed to go to another school that year. If you defer from a nonbinding school you may be able to get off waitlist because you aren' t legally bound but I would call the school to find out.
