Those schools are about equally as good. UGA is so much cheaper than the other two that I think it makes the answer pretty easy if you are OK with working in Georgia.

What are the stipulations for the scholarships? UGA is roughly 15k per year for in-state tuition. You can establish residency rather easily for 2L year. If the 5k is a merit scholarship you could finish at the bottom of your class for your 1L year and still have the same tuition cost (minus the 5k) for your 2L and 3L years. As for Wake and W&L depending on the stipulations it could be difficult to keep those scholarships. Since you don't have your heart set on any particular area the only factor I'm going with here is money. As long as you establish residency in GA you're looking at a cheaper sticker price without any merit stipulations. So right now my vote is UGA. More info might change that however.

UGA or W&L. UGA if you like atlanta; W&L if you want to have some (limited) mobility in south atlantic area
I know W&L probably has a 3.15 stipulation on their scholarhsip, but i donno what that translates to. What is UGA's stip? Consequences are worse if you lose your scholarship at W&L, tho.

Thank you for replying. The stipulation is a 2.7 for uga. The top 2/3 of the class for wake. A 3.15 for W&L which I have heard is about the same thing as the top 2/3 of the class. W&L curves the an average of like a 3.3.
I still think you go with UGA. If for some reason you have a bad year (and I sincerely hope you don't) you'll still only pay approx. 15k a year for tuition. Whereas if you have an off year for some reason at either W&L or Wake you lose your scholarship and pay sticker. UGA has good ties to the Atlanta market, and I think when competing against two schools of similar rank it makes better financial sense. Are there other factors that set the schools apart for you (proximity to family etc.)?

I agree with rad. Ultimately these are all regional schools, with regional influence. If you see yourself living in Charlotte, Wake is probably your best bet.

It's true. UGA cannot help you with NC. I can't think of more than 1 or 2 NC listings I have seen while here.

OP: If you don't like Atlanta, why did you even APPLY to UGA?

waitingisfun wrote:I'm not completely against Atlanta just not my number one city. I applied to uga because I like the south region and I think it's one of the beat schools in the region. I got the impression that it was a regional school rather than a state school; and that students just choose to go to Atlanta. (which explains the high employment in Atl)
If you really want Charlotte, WF is your best option. But the best school for anywhere in NC is UNC. Just like UGA runs the show in GA, so does UNC in NC.
Having said that, I think you should just get over your Atlanta issues and go to UGA in-state. ITE, all you should want is just a job and UGA/Atlanta will probably give you that.

Everything else aside, UGA really is a wonderful place to spend 3 years as opposed to Lexington and Winston Salem. The quality of life is very good. And while their student/professor ratio may not be what Washington and Lee's is, I hardly think you'll be a number. Where you want to end up is key, but I would say just go to the school that feels right or the school that has the programs that seem most aligned with your goals. Good luck.

Did for me. Felt like West Virginia mining country.

Nevermind, i thought UGA was going to be significantly cheaper. if they are all about the same cost just pick the region you want to work in.

UNC runs the show in NC? are you forgetting Duke? Wake is probably just a bit below UNC in NC but they are basically peers now.
Also UGA doesnt run the show in GA, it faces competition from Emory and other Southern schools like Vandy/Duke.
But anyways for OP, the reason why W&L worries me is that their 2010 employment stats are horrendous. Just compare 2010 versus 2009 and 2008, they really took a nose dive in employment stats.

by my count only 15/123 are in law firms with 100+ attorneys in 2010. so you can forget about biglaw.
