Emory v. BC

Money is exactly equal at the two.
I am originally from the Boston area and while I am looking to one day live and work in Boston I would prefer to spend some time right out of law school living/ working in another big city- NYC, dc, Cali etc before settling down in Boston- the idea of living in Boston for the rest of my life because I chose to go to BC kind of freaks me out.
Not entirely sure what kind of law I want to do when I graduate- want to keep my options open- and since I am going to law school straight from undergrad, I am definitely looking for a young and more collegial law school environment. I know it wont still be undergrad, but I am definitely hoping to go somewhere that works and plays hard- intramural sports, going out etc.
Thanks everyone so much for their advice!

Boston is a tough market to crack. Go to BU. Emory wont get you back to Boston.

Your options may not be great for getting to another big city right after graduation. Have you thought of taking a year or two off any trying to get to a school that places better in DC or NYC. Your numbers must be close to getting you into a school like that. I mean, BC could possibly get you to NYC if your grades are good enough, but you would have to spend your LS years at BC (which seems to fit your other criteria - young vibe, work hard/play hard). I guess hiring at Emory is especially rough.

Atlanta is a city, but still a smaller secondary market.

Sack up. This isn't undergrad anymore where you can go gallivanting across the country and backpacking through Europe and get away with it.

If you want to be in Boston long term, go to BC. If you want to go to another part of the country for a while, put off law school or at least attend a national school (e.g. T14) in that area so you can still get back to Boston after you graduate.

I disagree. This is one of those situations where BC (or BU) is going to help you. You can get a job in NYC or DC, but the Boston market won't be closed given your BC degree.

Wait, aren't you agreeing with my advice telling him to go to BC?

Emory's placement into DC and NYC is much better than TLS groupthink would have you believe. Of course, if you are absolutely dead-set on ending up in Boston, then BC is the obvious choice. That being said, a lot of people come to Emory from the northeast and choose to stay (usually one winter will do it).

Emory 2L here.

For Atlanta = go Emory

For Boston = go BC

For DC = crap shoot

For NYC = advantage to BC due to proximity.

Given your goals, go to BC.
