Hello all,

I just recently received my letter of acceptance from the University of San Francisco School of Law. I have narrowed down my search to USF and The University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis. My scholarship offers are as follows; $10,000 at USF where the tuition is $40,000 and $30,000 at University of St. Thomas College of Law where tuition is $35,000.

What I am looking for is some opinions regarding USF and graduates' job prospects. Please let me know what you think!

Thanks

JLondon

Job prospects are absolutely terrible from the lower ranked California schools. The state as a whole, is truly one of the worst legal markets in the country. Three main factors contribute make this the case: Lots of competition, high cost of living, and state government in shambles. Still, if you are from the region and want to work there, I would go there over Minneapolis. I think your prospects would be a little better from St. Thomas, but you couldn't pay me enough to live in such a cold location. I would rather be a homeless lawyer in sunny California.

That's just me though, and people here know I hate anything under 70 degrees.

Edit: Though if you got a 30k scholarship at St. Thomas, you should probably go there instead. Better prospects and way less debt. I just have a hard time recommending anyplace cold.

30k tuition plus S.F. cost of living are going to be a killer.

What are the St. Thomas stipulations?

This thread gives some great insight as to the MN market:

As far as USF, please refer to aliarrow's excellent charts - I think according to them, MANY USF grads are working only part time. I would go with St Thomas here.
