When do law students start to feel comfortable with "thinking like a lawyer"?

It seems to me that the first semester pretty much covers all of the basics. Does this mean that law students are pretty much ready to receive training in the practice of law after their first year?

Seems optimistic to me. I just read a NYLJ article on pleading strategy that blew my effing mind; I can't imagine I'd have thought like that kind of lawyer in 18 months.

You don't learn the law for real until you start working. Law school can give you the foundation but there's almost no way to avoid a big leap in the learning curve once you're in the real world.

But when does a student acquire the "legal reasoning" skills that lawyers are known to possess?

Maybe 6 months in on the job for some. For others, never.
