Tulane (COA 64K) vs LSU (COA 40k)

I have a scholly from LSU, so I am really only looking at 25k a year. I like both schools, and believe I would be happy and succeed at either. I am not from Louisiana, and will most likely leave the state after I graduate; it is purely coincidental that my top 2 choices right now are in Louisiana. I had other offers but narrowed down my decision to these two. I am aware neither school is T14, but don't plan on retaking and waiting a year :) I am staying on some WL's, and still pending/no decision at Alabama and Florida respectively, but have to put a seat deposit ASAP to save my place at one of these. Tulane is substantially higher in the rankings, and has a better national reputation, but.... is it worth the greater debt?

I appreciate the help!!!!!

24k isnt a big enough difference to outweigh which school fits best for you. Pick the school you feel gives you the best (whatever other options you value).

The actual difference is 39k a yr, as I said my COA with the scholarships is around 25K at LSU.

Are you sure you're feeling okay ?
Tulane (COA 64K) vs LSU (COA 40k)
You've thrown out a whole bunch of numbers that dont make sense.

I have a scholarship at LSU that brings my cost down from the standard 40k. I should have just done it this way:

Tulane 64k/yr
LSU 25k/yr

Thus, the difference is 39k a year.... This seems pretty substantial to me.

I just need some insight into whether or not it is worth the increased amount of debt. If my post was confusing, I apologize.

If I were basing my decision on athletics, I'm pretty sure the green wave would've been out a long time ago!

Oh. COA means total cost of attendance as it is used on these boards. Tulane is not worth 192k so, LSU if its your only other option.

I vote Tulane. the COA difference is not enough to make either considerably different in terms of cost.

I think Tulane gives you more options long term. Plus, it is a great school. I think that there are many options for you coming from Tulane.

I dont think you read the subsequent posts - those first 2 COA numbers aren't correct. Its 192k to attend Tulane vs 75k for LSU....

I read the following two or three but it still confused me. OP just fucked up explaining.

In that case LSU or Retake. I don't advocate that anyone take out more than $140k for Tulane, unless you are doing PI and expect to use loan forgiveness (in which case, cost ceases to really matter).

Isn't it difficult to leave the state from LSU?

Tulane has more opportunities outside of the state. About 70% of Tulane grads leave Louisiana, while about 70% of LSU grads stay...

That doesn't mean they all get what they are looking for, however. Do not believe that Tulane is a magic bullet that will let you get a jerb wherever. Grades still dominate. I go to Tulane I and I do not advocate that you take out 190k in debt.

I would go with Tulane if you plan to practice outside of LA... top 1/3 scholly @ LSU is too risky.

As an Alabama resident with a 160 LSAT & a 3.9 GPA, you should be admitted to Alabama.
If you do not plan on staying in Louisiana after law school, then LSU is not a great option. However, since the cost is attractive, deposit at LSU over Tulane & get the transfer apps ready for next cycle.

2/3rds chance of losing scholly. I know you are a special snowflake, but you don't want that pressure.

I'd consider LSU at sticker (except first year) when deciding CoA. If you bank on having scholly all three years, it could seriously mess you up financially.

Wait, you're looking at Tulane and LSU and you don't want to stay in Louisana after you graduate? This is seriously a bad idea.

+ 1.

OCI/Symplicity etc are all going to be focused on Louisiana. So you are going to have to leave on your own.

ITE, its probably not a good idea to abandon the little help you get from your school. In addition, you will have to explain why you want to leave. And if you do have a good answer (i.e. you have flordia ties, so you want to work in flordia) then they will ask you why the fuck you went to louisiana.

+1. You're looking at too much debt to be considering going to Tulane, especially if you don't want to end up there.

I get the feeling you're looking for someone to validate your choice to attend Tulane. Well I'm not gonna do it. Do NOT pay that exorbitant sum for that school unless you have a burning desire to experience future indentured servitude.

Top 1/3 scholarship for LSU, which places in a state you don't want to live in, is a slightly less bad, but still quite bad idea.

You don't want to retake, but you should.

Better curve, more students go out of the state than stay in it, it's got a solid reputation in its city and region, and you won't be stuck in Baton Rouge for three years.
