ULTIMATE DEATHMATCH - 7 schools. 7 scholarships.

Scholarships at all..

I have a job that is guaranteed in the Mid-Atlantic after LS so I am trying to find the school that makes the most sense but still offers a bit of prestige. I have only gotten to visit 2 schools for ASD but I have been on all the campuses before. IU-B had an unbelievable ASD but I am unsure of the school and the midwest. WF had a terrible ASD but has some good prestige and the money is right. Above is what I will be paying for tuition for all 3 years

I open to all suggestions and any advice. I would like a degree w/ prestige that might allow me other options down the line if I need other options. I have 0 UG debt but would prefer to keep it that way.

Who the hell is voting for IUB? The 7K difference between them is not worth the relatively large premium Wake has in biglaw + clerkship placement + portability. Wake places what, twice as many people into biglaw and clerkships? The green backs and employment prospects just don't add up.

Biglaw and clerkship placement don't mean much when you have a guaranteed job.

With a guaranteed job, SMU or Wake.

I thought Wake put more people into law firms in general as well.

I voted Wake because of the location of your job - you said you'd like a bit of prestige, and Wake has that in the mid-Atlantic at a good price. IUB doesn't, SMU is regional to the south and the others are, IMO, too expensive.

If you have a guaranteed job I think any school would do. I voted Wake though because of the low cost and name. But if you're looking to keep your options open "down the line" I think, and I may be wrong, that by that time you will have plenty of experience and connections that where you went won't really be the deciding factor whether they'll hire you or not. A few family friends have been lawyers for 15+ years, and all of them went to schools I've never heard of and most of them work in big firms and make really good money.

Are the scholarship stipulations similar? Do you have a 'feel' for the schools? I'd say pick the best compromise of money/likelihood of keeping the money and prestige.

Probably:

1) Wake
2) IUB
3) Case

I'd say Wake, unless for some reason you prefer IUB or Case Western, and not just because there was a bad ASD at Wake. I go to Case; I know we do fairly well in Mid-Atlantic but that doesn't matter for you, and if Wake is less expensive it seems pretty obvious.

Why was the ASD "terrible"?

According to this, Wake Forest gets crushed in BigLaw placement?

It looks like IU-B does pretty well.

As an Emory student, I would like to see you come here so we can get our jobs at graduation percent up. Take one for the team.

Emory was by far my top choice. However, the scholarship was just not enough.

Yeah, but Wake places more in firm jobs overall than many peer schools, just not in NLJ250. It's regional, so most firms in NC aren't biglaw. And this is 2005. Blah. There's a composite from 2008 out there somewhere, slightly more useful. Annnd you have a job anyway, so I really think you should weigh scholarship stipulations, your feel for the school, and overall rank and just go with that. I think Wake still wins, but if you have serious reservations, you owe it to yourself to look more into your other big scholly schools.

This is a very pertinent question. I can't tell you how good it feels when grades start rolling in that, no matter what, your scholarship is safe.

Also, SMU 1L, so feel free to shoot me any questions you may have.
